Fourth St. Bridge over I-70 Update

I-70 westbound lanes will reopen ahead of Monday morning rush hour

4th St

COLUMBUS - The westbound lanes of I-70 in downtown Columbus will reopen ahead of Monday morning rush hour.

Emergency repairs have been underway to address the damage caused by an impact to the overpass. A contractor, Kokosing Construction, will utilize a salvaged beam from the recently demolished Front Street bridge to serve as a brace supporting the damaged section of 4th Street. Additional structural bracing will also be installed under the bridge.

The westbound lanes of the interstate closed Saturday afternoon after a semi hauling a large excavator struck the 4th Street overpass.

Other closures due to the crash include the ramp from I-71 southbound to I-70 westbound and 4th Street at I-70. The ramp and one lane of 4th Street will also open ahead of Monday morning rush hour.

ODOT's Franklin County maintenance crews were able to use the closure of I-70 to complete routine maintenance operations and litter pick up that are challenging to perform when traffic is present on the roadway.

Motorists should check OHGO.com for updated traffic information.
