Public Meeting Planned for U.S. 33 Expansion Project in Athens/Meigs Counties
Project will convert two-lane highway to four-lane divided highway
MARIETTA - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proposing an improvement project along U.S. 33 between Oxley Road in Athens County and the State Route 681 interchange in Meigs County. The purpose of the project is to accommodate the growing transportation needs of the region and address safety concerns. Improvements include:
• Converting 10.78 miles of the 2-lane highway to a 4-lane divided highway • Converting the following intersections with U.S. 33 to interchanges: Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton Road, Rainbow Lake Road, State Route 681 • Resurfacing the existing U.S. 33 roadway
Right-of-way acquisition is not anticipated for the project. Construction is estimated to begin in Summer of 2025.
