Traffic Changes On Tap For S.R. 32/Bach Buxton Project

Clermont County (Tuesday, August 8, 2023) – The interchange at state Route 32 and Bach Buxton Road is getting closer to completion, and as construction moves forward, new traffic patterns will go into effect later this week with portions of the interchange opening to traffic.

On Friday, August 11, the following traffic changes will be imparted along the S.R. 32 corridor:

EASTBOUND S.R. 32

  • The new off-ramp from S.R. 32 East to Clepper Lane will become an "Exit Only" lane, and eastbound S.R. 32 traffic will be maintained in two lanes through the work zone.
  • The at-grade intersection of Bach Buxton Road (formerly, Elick Lane) and S.R. 32 will be closed, and the signal will be removed. A temporary right-in access from eastbound S.R. 32 to southbound Bach Buxton/Elick Lane will remain open through late August or early September.
  • The re-aligned section of Bach Buxton Road will be open to traffic, and the traffic signal at Marian Drive will be activated.
  • The ramp from Bach Buxton Road to eastbound S.R. 32 will be open, and the signal at the ramp will be activated. Traffic on the ramp to S.R. 32 East will be maintained in a continuous thru-lane through the intersection with Old S.R. 74.

WESTBOUND S.R. 32

  • The ramp from westbound S.R. 32 to southbound Bach Buxton Road will be open, and a signal will be activated.
  • The leg of the ramp from Bach Buxton Road to westbound S.R. 32 will NOT be open at this time. A section of the ramp will open with temporary access to Elick Lane; this will be one-way access only to northbound Elick Lane and Old S.R. 74.
  • Motorists from Bach Buxton Road to S.R. 32 West will be detoured via eastbound S.R. 32 and the Olive Branch-Stonelick Road interchange to S.R. 32 West.

With the various changes to traffic patterns, access to businesses and residential properties will be maintained by way of the new ramps and access roads.

In addition to constructing a new interchange, the S.R. 32/Bach Buxton project includes widening westbound S.R. 32 to three lanes, and the traffic changes, including the permanent closure of the south leg of Glen Este-Withamsville Road from S.R. 32, are being coordinated in various phases to allow traffic to be maintained through all work zones and accommodate construction of the additional westbound lane.

In tandem with this project is the reconstruction on Old S.R. 74, which includes widening approximately one-half mile of the route between Schoolhouse Road and Springfield Court on the north side of S.R. 32 to accommodate added capacity from the S.R. 32/Bach Buxton interchange. Closure of Old S.R. 74 between Elick Lane and Dogwood Drive will be in effect through early October, and motorists will be detoured via Glen Este-Withamsville Road.

The John R. Jurgensen Company was awarded two separate contracts to complete both projects, and all associated work is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
