SUMMIT COUNTY: Weekly Construction Update

WEEK OF DECEMBER 12

AKRON, Ohio (Thursday, December 8, 2022) - The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Summit County next week. All outlined work is weather permitting.

Interstate 76/77 Akron Innerbelt Reconstruction

Interstate 76/77 Akron Beltway reconstruction, Akron – reconstruction of I-76/I-77 between Princeton Ave. to V. Odom Blvd., I-77 between Cole Ave. and Waterloo Rd., and 
at State Route 8/I-76/I-77 Central Interchange.
NEW IMPACT – The following ramp is NOW OPEN:

• The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound

NEW IMPACT – On Thursday evening, December 8, at 10 p.m., SR 8 southbound at the Central Interchange will be CLOSED through Friday morning, December 9, at 5 a.m. for bridge beam placement. The detour will be the SR 8 southbound ramp to I-76 eastbound to Arlington Rd. to I-76 westbound to I-77 southbound.
NEW IMPACT – The following ramps will re-open by Friday morning, December 9, at 5 a.m.:

• The ramp from I-277/U.S. 224 westbound to I-77 northbound
• The ramp from I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound
• The ramp from State Route 764/Wilbeth Rd. to I-77 northbound

NEW IMPACT – On Monday evening, December 12, at 10 p.m., the ramp from I-76 eastbound to I-77 southbound will be CLOSED through Tuesday morning, December 13 at 5 a.m. for bridge beam placement. The detour will be I-76 eastbound to Arlington St. to I-76 westbound to I-77 southbound.
NEW IMPACTS – On Tuesday evening, December 13, at 10 p.m., the following ramps will be CLOSED through Wednesday morning, December 14, at 5 a.m. for striping:

• The ramp from Carroll St. to SR 8 southbound. The detour will be Exchange St. to Fountain St. to Perkins St./SR 8 southbound ramp.
• The ramp from SR 8 southbound to I-76 eastbound. The detour will be SR 18/E. Market St. to I-76 eastbound

NEW IMPACT – On Wednesday morning, December 14 at 5 a.m., the following ramp will RE-OPEN:

• SR 8 southbound to I-77 northbound/I-76 westbound

NEW IMPACT – Beginning Wednesday evening, December 14, at 11 p.m., I-76 eastbound at the Central Interchange will be CLOSED through Thursday morning, December 15, at 4 a.m. for a traffic pattern switch. The detour will be I-77 southbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg to I-277 eastbound to I-77 northbound to I-76 eastbound. During this time the following ramps will also be closed:

• Main St. to I-76 eastbound
• East Ave, to I-76 eastbound
• South St. To I-76 eastbound

NEW IMPACT – Beginning Wednesday evening, December 14, at 11 p.m., the following ramps will be CLOSED through late fall 2024:

• I-76/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg northbound. The detour will be I-76 eastbound to SR 21 northbound.
• I-76/Kenmore Leg northbound to I-76 eastbound/I-77 southbound. The detour will be I-77 northbound to Copley Rd. to I-77 southbound.
• I-76 eastbound to I-77 southbound. The detour will be I-76/Kenmore Leg southbound to I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-77.
• East Ave. to I-76 eastbound. The detour will be Morse St. to Hawkins Ave. to V. Odom Blvd.

NEW IMPACT – The following traffic pattern is in place:

• Traffic on I-77 northbound is placed into a contraflow traffic pattern with two lanes of I-77 remaining in the northbound direction, and the far-left lane crossed over onto I-77 southbound.
• The left lane on I-77 northbound is an exit only lane to I-277/U.S. 224 westbound. Traffic wishing to stay on I-77 northbound will need to stay in the right two lanes. This traffic pattern will remain in place through late summer 2023.
