New Downtown Connections to Open Friday

Two new downtown roadway connections will open this Friday, November 4, signaling the substantial completion of construction at I-71 and Broad Street:

• Lester Drive (southbound only) between Long St. and Broad St.
• Elijah Pierce Avenue (northbound only) between Broad St. and Long St.

Once open, southbound traffic exiting the freeway will use Lester Dr. to access Broad St. Traffic coming from Broad St. will use Elijah Pierce Ave. to get to I-71 north and I-670.

The $40 million project also reconstructed I-71 between Broad St. and Long St. and replaced the Broad St. bridge over the interstate. Remaining aesthetic work will continue into Spring 2023.
