MUSKINGUM COUNTY: Weekly Construction Update

Week of 5/2/2022

Jacksontown, Ohio (Friday, April 29, 2022) - The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Muskingum County. All outlined work is weather permitting.

SR 60

State Route 60

SR 60 daytime closure for culvert replacement - Beginning Wednesday, May 4, SR 60 is scheduled to close between Jones Road and McGlade School Road for a culvert replacement. This is a daytime closure only from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Estimated completion is Thursday, May 5. Detour: SR 60 to Northpointe Drive.

Interstate 70 Reconstruction

Interstate 70 reconstruction in downtown Zanesville - This project will reconstruct I-70 though the city of Zanesville, resurface I-70 between U.S. 40 and State Route 93. Full reconstruction will begin west of the Licking Road overpass, including the Maple Avenue ramps and Maple Avenue at the end of the ramps, and end east of the abandoned railroad overpass. The project also impacts 16 bridges in the area.

  • New impacts:
    • I-70 is scheduled to close next week between U.S 40 (exit 152) and SR 93 for pavement repairs. This will be an overnight closure only from 11:00pm to 4:00am. During that time, I-70 traffic will be detoured to U.S. 40. 
      • I-70 WB overnight closure will take place Monday through Friday and the EB closure will follow on Friday/Saturday.

State Route 16

State Route 16 restriction and closure for drainage work near Monroe Basin - SR 16 is scheduled to re-open by the end of the day Monday, May 2. At that time, SR 16 will then be restricted to one lane with a temporary signal to complete work. The temporary traffic signal/restriction will be in place for approximately two weeks.

Interstate 70

Interstate 70 resurfacing - This project includes resurfacing with related work on portions of I-70 in Licking and Muskingum Counties from CR 330 (Shelly Rd.) in Licking County to the Licking/Muskingum County line and Licking/Muskingum County line to just east of CR 30 in Muskingum County. Estimated project completion is October 2022.

  • New impacts: Motorists can expect single lane closures on Midland Oil and Mt. Hope Roads during the weeks of 4/25 and 5/2 for completion of bridge repairs. Beginning the week of May 2, there will be overnight lane closures of I-70 from the three lane portion in eastern Licking County to Mt. Perry Rd (Exit 143) in western Muskingum County for paving operations.
