Downtown Ramp Up: Weekly Construction Update

WEEK OF MARCH 13, 2022

Downtown Ramp Up

Interstates 70/71 Reconstruction – I-70/71 will experience lane restrictions through downtown Columbus to widen and reconstruct the roadway, replace bridges over the interstate, rebuild ramps, and construct new urban avenues parallel to the interstate. Various downtown ramps will permanently close. Estimated completion: Oct. 2023

NEW IMPACTS

The I-70 eastbound ramp to SR 315 northbound will close permanently Friday, March 18, 2022. This change is necessary to widen and realign the ramp from I-71 north to I-70 east. Drivers coming from I-270 on the West Side should use I-670 east to access SR 315 north. Additional alternate routes include:

  • I-70 east to I-71 north to I-670 west to SR 315 north
  • Central Ave. to McKinley Ave. to Grandview Ave. to I-670 east to SR 315 north
  • Hague Ave. to I-70 east to I-670 east to SR 315 north 

 

  • The W. Mound St. ramp to I-70 westbound will close daily (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16. 
    • Detour: Civic Center Dr. to E. Main St. to 2nd St. to I-70 westbound. 
  • The Greenlawn Ave. ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to SR 104 eastbound to I-71 northbound.
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to I-70 westbound will close overnight (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.,
    • Detour: SR 315 northbound to U.S. 62 westbound to SR 315 southbound to I-70 westbound. 
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to I-70 eastbound/I-71 northbound will close overnight (11 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.
    • Detour: SR 315 northbound to I-670 eastbound to I-71 northbound.
  • The W. Broad St. ramp to I-70 eastbound will close overnight (7 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.
    • Detour: I-70 westbound to Wilson Rd. to I-70 eastbound.
  • The Sullivant Ave., ramp to I-70 eastbound will close overnight (7 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.
    • Detour: Sullivant Ave. to U.S. 62 northbound to W. Broad St. westbound to I-70 eastbound.
  • The Mound St. ramp to I-70 eastbound will close overnight (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.
    • Detour: Mound St. to U.S. 62 northbound to W. Broad St. westbound to I-70 eastbound.
  • The I-70 eastbound ramp to I-71 southbound will close overnight (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.
    • Detour: I-70 eastbound to I-71 northbound to I-670 westbound to SR 315 southbound to I-71 southbound.
  • W. Mound St. between Civic Center Dr. and Second St. will have daily lane restrictions (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) starting Monday, March 14 through Thursday, March 17. 
  • I-70 eastbound between W. Broad St. and I-71 will have overnight lane restrictions (10 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18. 
  • I-71 northbound between Frank Rd. and I-70 will have overnight lane restrictions (6 p.m. - 6 a.m.) on Friday, March 18.

CONTINUING IMPACTS

  • The Broad St. ramp to I-71 southbound closed in July 2020 until Summer 2022. 
  • Broad St. is reduced to two lanes westbound and one lane eastbound on the bridge over Interstate 71. Traffic is shifted to the new south half of the bridge so crews can demolish and rebuild the north half. This traffic pattern on Broad St. will remain in effect until Summer 2022. 

All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
