S.R. 32/Bauer Road RCUT Now Open

Traffic is now in its final configuration

Clermont County (Friday, Dec. 3, 2021) – The Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) at state Route 32 and Bauer Road in Clermont County is now open, and traffic is in its final configuration.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have completed operations today, Dec. 2, to turn on signals and open the newly constructed loons on S.R. 32 to the east and west of the Bauer Road intersection. With the signals in stop-and-go operation and the RCUT open, both routes are now in their final, permanent configuration.

Left-turn and cross-over movements from Bauer Road are now prohibited, and motorists traveling from either direction are required to turn right onto S.R. 32 and either continue to the nearby loon, where they can make a legal U-turn at a one-way signalized crossover and proceed on S.R. 32 in the opposite direction or return to Bauer Road on the opposite side of the mainline route.

Left-turn movements from S.R. 32 to Bauer Road in either direction continue to be permitted, and traffic at the intersection is controlled by signals as well.

The project is a result of growing safety concerns in which traffic congestion and driver misperceptions of the available gap in opposing traffic was the source of numerous crashes. In 2019, the intersection was listed on the Governor’s Top 150 list for intersection improvements, and it was ranked as the 44th highest crash location among Urban Non-Freeway intersections in the state.

Barrett Paving Materials was awarded a contract for approximately $2.4 million to undertake the project. Following a winter hiatus, crews will return in the spring of 2022 to complete final paving operations and apply permanent pavement markings.
