Downtown Ramp Up: Weekly Construction Update

WEEK OF AUGUST 22, 2021

Downtown Ramp Up

Interstates 70/71 Reconstruction – I-70/71 will experience lane restrictions through downtown Columbus to widen and reconstruct the roadway, replace bridges over the interstate, rebuild ramps, and construct new urban avenues parallel to the interstate. Various downtown ramps will permanently close. Estimated completion: Oct. 2023

NEW IMPACTS

  • I-70 eastbound and westbound between SR 315 and I-71 will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: I-71 to I-670 to SR 315 to I-70 or reverse.  
  • I-71 northbound and southbound between Main St. and I-70 will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: SR 315 to I-670 to I-71 or reverse. 
  • The SR 315 southbound ramp to I-70 eastbound will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to I-270 eastbound to I-70 eastbound. 
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to I-70 eastbound will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: SR 315 northbound to I-670 eastbound to I-71 southbound. 
  • The I-71 southbound ramp to I-70 westbound will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: I-670 westbound to SR 315 southbound to I-70 westbound. 
  • The I-70 eastbound ramp to I-71 northbound will close nightly (11 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
    • Detour: I-71 northbound to SR 315 northbound to I-670 eastbound to I-71 northbound. 
  • I-70 eastbound and westbound between SR 315 and I-71 will have nightly lane restrictions (9 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
  • I-71 northbound and southbound between Main St. and I-70 will have nightly lane restrictions (9 p.m. - 5 a.m.) starting Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.

CONTINUING IMPACTS

  • Fulton St. between 4th St. and 3rd St. has lane restrictions through Summer 2021.
  • The Broad St. ramp to I-71 southbound closed in July 2020 until Summer 2022. 
  • Broad Street is reduced to two lanes westbound and one lane eastbound on the bridge over Interstate 71. Traffic is shifted to the new south half of the bridge so crews can demolish and rebuild the north half. This traffic pattern on Broad St. will remain in effect until Summer 2022. 
  • Parsons Avenue between Main St. and Children's Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction through Summer 2021, weather permitting.

All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
