Roundabout Construction Slated To Begin
Butler County (Tuesday, May 18, 2021) – Following preliminary site work, construction of a roundabout on U.S. Route 127 is set to begin in Butler County next week.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will construct a single-lane roundabout on U.S. 127 at the northern (west) junction with state Route 73 (Trenton Oxford Road) in the community of Collinsville.
During construction, U.S. 127 motorists will be maintained in one, 11-foot lane in each direction, with traffic shifted to the west onto temporary pavement. S.R. 73 traffic will also be maintained throughout most of construction; however, it will be subject to intermittent periods of closure.
Along with restrictions on U.S. 127 and S.R. 73, Huston Road will be closed at the east junction with U.S. 127 for up to 75 days. Currently, the closure is scheduled to go into effect Thursday, June 3, and traffic will be detoured via Hamilton Eaton Road and Trenton Oxford Road.
The intersection of U.S. 127 and S.R. 73 has been ranked 45th in priority in the state, and it is on the Governor's Top 150 high crash intersection list. Following safety studies, ODOT determined that a single-lane modern roundabout would be the most effective measure to improve safety. In addition to slowing traffic through the intersection, the roundabout will maintain traffic flow and reduce the number of conflict points for motorists.
The Sunesis Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $2.6 million to construct the roundabout, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by late spring or early summer of 2022.
