Paving Operations, Other Work Slated For
U.S. 42 RCUT

Greene County (Wednesday, March 24, 2021) – Following a winter hiatus, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are returning to the site of the Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) on U.S. Route 42 in Greene County to complete final paving operations and other field work.

Starting in late April, crews from R.B. Jergens Contractors will be placing the final surface course of asphalt and apply permanent pavement markings on U.S. 42 at Spring Valley Paintersville Road (SVPR) where the at-grade crossing has been eliminated. Paving operations will begin the week of April 26, and traffic will be maintained by flaggers during working hours.

Prior to this, the contractor will be working to extend the median concrete island in both the north and southbound directions and complete other, minor field work. This work is scheduled to begin the week of March 29, and weather permitting, it should be completed by April 9.

With the elimination of the at-grade crossing from SVPR, cross-street traffic and left-turn movements are prohibited, and motorists from SVPR must now turn right onto U.S. 42 and then make a legal U-turn at the nearby crossover, or loon. The RCUT has been designed to accommodate all vehicles, including large, oversized trucks, semi tractor-trailers and farm equipment.

R.B. Jergens Contractors, Inc. was awarded a contract for approximately $1.8 million to undertake the project, and all work should be completed by mid-Spring.
