ODOT seeking public comment on projects

LIMA, Ohio (January 7, 2021) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1, in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Executive Order 11988, is seeking public comments regarding the following proposed projects:

ALLEN COUNTY

Westminster Sidewalk and Roadway Improvements (PID: 109435) – ODOT is proposing a project that will add or upgrade sidewalks along both sides of State Route 117 in the village of Westminster.  The proposed project will also resurface the roadway, install curb and gutter, and update lighting along State Route 117 in the village.  The project may also address sight distance safety issues at various intersections in the village.

The proposed work in the southern portion of the village may occur within the regulated floodplain of the Auglaize River.  The impacts to this floodplain are anticipated to be minor and the carrying capacity of the Auglaize River will be maintained. A statement of findings detailing the results of the final floodplain analysis will be made available on the ODOT District 1 environmental website: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D01/PlanningPrograms/Pages/environmental.aspx

Construction activities may require temporary roadway closures.  Vehicular traffic will be detoured, but access to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring or summer of 2023.

Interstate 75 and State Route 696 Bridge Maintenance (PID: 101196) – ODOT is proposing to conduct bridge maintenance activities on two bridges in Allen County.

One bridge is located near Interstate 75 at the southbound exit ramp for Bluelick Road (Exit 130) about three miles northeast of the city of Lima.  The maintenance work on this bridge will require the closure of the southbound exit ramp for approximately two weeks during the summer of 2021.  Signage will be placed near the exit ramp alerting the traveling public in advance of the closure.

The other bridge is located at the State Route 696 and U.S. 30 interchange just east of the village of Beaverdam.  The maintenance work on this bridge will require the closure of the ramp that allows traffic to head east on U.S. 30 from State Route 696 and traffic to access State Route 696 from U.S. 30.   The closure of this ramp is expected to last two weeks during the summer of 2021.  Signage will be placed near the interchange alerting the traveling public in advance of the closure.

Shawnee Road Roundabout Improvements (PID: 114150) – The Allen County Engineer, in partnership with ODOT, is proposing a safety project that will install overhead signs, upgrade existing signs, and upgrade pavement markings at the Shawnee Road / Fort Amanda Road roundabout in the village of Shawnee, located southwest of the city of Lima.

The proposed work may occur within the regulated floodplain of the Ottawa River. The impacts to this floodplain are anticipated to be minor and the carrying capacity of the Ottawa River will be maintained. A statement of findings detailing the results of the final floodplain analysis will be made available on the ODOT District 1 environmental website: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D01/PlanningPrograms/Pages/environmental.aspx

HANCOCK COUNTY

State Route 568 Bridge Repair (PID: 98521) – ODOT is proposing to make repairs to two bridge structures located on State Route 568 on the southeast side of the city of Findlay.

One structure being repaired is the bridge over the Blanchard River just west of the County Road 236 intersection.  The Blanchard River is designated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a recreational water trail.  As a public recreational resource, this portion of the river is protected under federal law.  The use of federal funds requires measures to be developed to minimize harm, and advance public notice be given of impacts to this public recreational resource.  This project has been developed to be constructed without any impacts to recreational boaters.

The other structure being repaired is the bridge carrying State Route 568 over a small tributary to the Blanchard River located approximately a half-mile east of the County Road 236 intersection.

Construction activities at both structures are anticipated to occur in the summer of 2023 and will result in temporary roadway closures. Vehicular traffic will be detoured. Access to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

The work at both these structures will occur in the regulated floodplain of the Blanchard River. The impacts to this floodplain are anticipated to be minor and the carrying capacity of the Blanchard River will be maintained. A statement of findings detailing the results of the final floodplain analysis will be made available on the ODOT District 1 environmental website: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D01/PlanningPrograms/Pages/environmental.aspx
