U.S. 42 RCUT Set To Open

Greene County (Friday, Dec. 18, 2020) – As construction winds down for the year, a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) on U.S. Route 42 in Greene County is set to open to motorists early next week.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are constructing an RCUT at U.S. 42 and Spring Valley Paintersville Road, which will eliminate cross-over movements through the intersection and left-turn movements from SVPR to U.S. 42.

This week, crews have been completing pavement markings and other handwork, and on Monday, Dec. 21, they will close the median to begin installing the concrete island. At which time, motorists will no longer be able to cross the intersection, and it will be necessary for them to navigate left-turn and through movements by doing a legal U-turn at the adjacent crossovers, or loons, that have been constructed.

Currently, traffic on U.S. 42 is being maintained in one lane in each direction, and Spring Valley Paintersville remains closed on either side of the intersection with U.S. 42. Intermittent lane closures may also be in effect on U.S. 42 throughout the week while the crews work to install the concrete median.

R.B. Jergens Contractors, Inc. was awarded a contract for approximately $1.8 million to undertake the project, and following a winter hiatus, crews will return in the spring to place the final surface course of asphalt and apply permanent pavement markings.
