Ready for Winter: ODOT District 7 Annual Inspections Complete
Sydney, Ohio (Friday, November 13, 2020) –The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) completed its annual snow and ice inspection of more than 150 snowplow trucks and equipment for the upcoming season. During the past two months, auto mechanics and technicians have performed a 150-point checklist in all nine-county facilities and outposts to make sure our equipment is ready.
“We know Ohioans depend on us to be the standard of excellence during the most adverse weather conditions,” said District 7 Deputy Director Randy Chevalley. “That’s why our team of men and women is critical to our success in getting people and goods to their destinations safely during a winter event.”
In addition to its fleet, District 7 will have 252 drivers which include full-time employees, seasonal workers, and on-call drivers for the season. These employees often work 12-hour shifts during snow events, and ODOT’s goal is to have primary routes passable for drivers within two hours of the end of a snow event.
“Safety is a number one priority for us, ODOT wants to remind motorists to move over and slow down when you see our snow plows, and put the distractions down so everyone can arrive to their destination safely,“ said Chevalley.
District 7 has more than 67,000 tons of salt and 565,900 gallons of deicing liquid. We maintain more than 4,100 lane miles and more than 1380 bridges in Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, and Shelby Counties.
