DriveOhio Announces New Executive Director

(COLUMBUS,OHIO) - Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Jack Marchbanks has selected Howard Wood to lead DriveOhioas the new Executive Director beginning Monday, August 31, 2020. Patrick Smith, formerly serving as interim executive director, will remain on the DriveOhio team as senior managing director of stakeholder affairs.

“During his previous time at ODOT, Howard was in the vanguard of employees who grasped the importance of Intelligent Transportation Systems and their role in our future mobility needs. He has the vision and experience to lead the transportation innovation DriveOhio is working on in the smart mobility sector,” said ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks.

Mr. Wood has 30 years of experience in surface transportation planning and public policy. His public sector roles have included freight planning, intelligent transportation system (ITS) program development, and project planning through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In the private sector, he was a Vice President for a global transportation consultancy, serving as a principal consultant for transportation policy and public-private-partnership projects, and managing the engineering practice of four offices in Ohio and Kentucky. He has a business degree in transportation and logistics from Ohio State University, and a master’s degree in public policy from Rutgers University.

It’s full steam ahead, and we will continue the work to make Ohio’s roadway’s safer by utilizing smart mobility transportation solutions to solve challenges across the state,” said Mr. Wood. 

An initiative of the ODOT, DriveOhio serves as the state’s front door for companies, institution and communities that want to design, test and deploy smart mobility transportation solutions, on the ground and in the air.
