South Side Mega Fix: Weekly Construction Update

WEEK OF AUGUST 16, 2020

Interstate 71 South Side Reconstruction -  I-71, SR 104, and I-270 will experience various lane and ramp restrictions to reconstruct and widen I-71 between downtown Columbus and Stringtown Road, replace bridges, realign and reconfigure interchanges and intersections, rebuild ramps, and construct noise walls. Estimated completion: Dec. 2020

NEW IMPACTS

Interstate 71 northbound between I-270 and Greenlawn Ave. will have overnight lane restrictions on Sunday, August 16. Work will also include: 

  • The I-270 westbound ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to Stringtown Rd. to I-71 northbound.
  • The I-270 eastbound ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to Stringtown Rd. to I-71 northbound.
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to I-270 westbound will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-270 eastbound to Alum Creek Drive to I-270 westbound.
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to Frank Rd. will close 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 16.
    • Detour: I-71 northbound to Greenlawn Ave. to I-71 southbound to Frank Rd.
  • The Greenlawn Ave. ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to Stringtown Rd. to I-71 northbound.
  • The SR 104 westbound ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to Stringtown Rd. to I-71 northbound.
  • The I-71 northbound ramp to Greenlawn Ave. will close overnight on Sunday, August 16. 
    • Detour: I-71 northbound to I-71 westbound to Broad St. to I-70 eastbound to I-71 southbound to Greenlawn Ave. 
  • The SR 104 ramp to I-71 northbound will close overnight on Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21. 
    • Detour: I-71 southbound to Stringtown Rd. to I-71 northbound.

CONTINUING IMPACTS

  • Greenlawn Ave. eastbound and westbound at I-71 will be restricted to one lane daily (Monday - Friday) for ramp reconstruction through Friday, August 21.

  • Frank Rd. eastbound between Harmon Ave. and I-71 closed starting Monday, June 29 at 5 a.m. for four months, weather permitting. Please note, westbound Frank Rd/State Route 104 will remain open. Estimated completion: Nov. 2020

    • Detour: U.S. Route 62 southbound to I-270 eastbound to I-71 northbound to Frank Road/SR 104.

All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
