Brown-41 Emergency Slip Repair Begins Next Week

Adams-41 Bridge Replacement Under Way

Chillicothe (Saturday, June 1, 2019) – Construction for an emergency slip repair on state Route 41 in Brown County is scheduled to begin next week, and the route will be closed to traffic.

S.R. 41 has been reduced to one lane since early March following a slip that occurred just south of S.R. 763 and approximately one mile north of Aberdeen. Since then, traffic has been maintained with temporary signals; however, on Monday, June 3, the route will be closed for crews from Kokosking Construction Company to begin installing a drilled shaft retaining wall and repair the pavement.

In addition to this project, operations are under way for a bridge replacement on S.R. 41 in Adams County, and the route is closed between C.R. 20 (Ripley Pike) and T.R. 185 (Gray Road), approximately three miles north of the Brown County line.

Due to the closure of S.R. 41 in Brown County, local motorists in Adams County will be detoured by way of S.R. 136 North, S.R. 125 and S.R. 763, and local motorists in Brown County will be detoured via S.R. 763, S.R. 353, U.S. 62/68 and U.S. 52. All thru-traffic motorists wanting to travel S.R. 41 between Aberdeen and West Union, however, may detour by way of U.S. 52 and S.R. 136.

Under normal circumstances, construction for projects that create conflicting detours would not be scheduled to take place simultaneously. While the bridge replacement in Adams County was programmed through the traditional planning and design process, the slip repair in Brown County became necessary due to heavy rain events in late winter, thus resulting in an emergency contract being awarded this spring.

Although an exact schedule for Kokosing crews to complete the slip repair has yet to be determined, it is anticipated that the route will be reopened by late August, and Coopers Excavating, the contractor for the bridge replacement, is scheduled to have S.R. 41 in Adams County open to traffic by the end of June.
