S.R. 7 Closed At Chesapeake
Crews, contractors working to clear route
Chillicothe (Monday, February 26, 2018) -- With crews and contractors responding to a rockfall on state Route 7 in Lawrence County, efforts to clear the rock and restore the route are under way this afternoon.
S.R. 7 in Lawrence County was closed in the four-lane section between the U.S. 52 interchange and S.R. 527 at Chesapeake earlier today after a rock slide occurred along the westbound lanes.
Expediting
efforts to restore the route, the Ohio Department of Transportation
– District 9 has issued an emergency contract
with DGM, Inc., and while crews from ODOT's Lawrence County Highway Maintenance Facility have already begun working, DGM crews will be on site later today to begin clearing the rock from the roadway.
Once the rock has been cleared, ODOT will assess the pavement and complete any necessary repairs before opening the route to traffic.
The duration of closure is unknown at this time, and currently, all four lanes of S.R. 7 are closed near C.R. 124 (Tallow Ridge Road), east of the U.S. 52 interchange to West Virginia.
While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. 52, the 17th and 6th Street bridges, and I-64 in Huntington, West Virginia.
