Development Awards $21.6 Million in Grants to Improve Housing, Quality of Life Across Ohio
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — The Ohio Department of Development today announced $21.6 million in funding to 29 communities to improve housing and provide homeownership and rental assistance for low- and moderate-income families.
The Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) program partners with communities to preserve and improve Ohio’s housing stock through various housing-related initiatives such as home renovation and repair, rental assistance, and more.
“A safe, stable place to call home is the foundation of strong families and strong communities,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “Through these grants, we’re helping more communities repair aging homes, expand access to affordable housing, and ensure Ohio's families — no matter where they live — have the opportunity to put down roots and build a better future.”
CHIP program grants this cycle are funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Programs.
“Too many families feel like the dream of owning a home is out of reach, and we’re working to change that,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “These grants will help our local partners make renting more affordable, provide safer living spaces, and create more attainable pathways to homeownership.”
