Smoothie Slurp
The American Dairy Association Mideast and the Ohio and West Virginia Farm to School Networks are promoting a Smoothie Slurp during the week of February 6th! To register your group just click this link: https://bit.ly/SmoothieSlurp23
Smoothies are an excellent way for kids to try new foods and increase their fruit and vegetable intake. They are an easy option to add to breakfast or lunch too! Smoothies are high in calcium, protein, potassium, vitamins like vitamin C, and fiber. Smoothies are a great way to promote buying and serving local foods including dairy products and fruit and vegetable produce. Two of the recipes included in the Smoothie Slurp guide are large-batch recipes that are cafeteria friendly and only include 3 simple ingredients. For more information on these recipes go to: https://www.drink-milk.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Smoothie-Slurp-Guide.pdf
Ohio State University Extension has also created an activity guide on how to teach kids about the nutrition in smoothies by categorizing food groups, exploring how to balance calories and create their own smoothie recipe using a template. For teaching activities related to healthy smoothies in a blender or smoothie bike head to: https://ohio4h.org/4Hblenderbike
Show us how you slurp! Share photos or videos on social media using #OHSmoothieSlurp or #WVSmoothieSlurp and tag @adamideast and @OhioFarm2School or @WVFarm2School.

Farm to School Regional Network
Since 2011, the Ohio Farm to School Network has been led by Ohio State University Extension. Comprised of representatives from state and local agencies, school districts, non-profit organizations, food producers, distributors, and other stakeholders within the food system, this group meets quarterly to support efforts in the procurement, serving, and teaching about local foods to children throughout Ohio. In 2020, Ohio Department of Agriculture, in partnership with Ohio Department of Education, was awarded a $100,000 USDA State Agency F2S Grant to strengthen the existing Ohio Network. Through that process, eight regional networks were created providing a framework for coordination among Ohio F2S programs while celebrating the regional characteristics and cultures found around the state.
Thank you to the following organizations that have offered to lead their regional networks!
