It is important that toys be part of every child’s style of play so that they can explore their world and develop their skills! During the Center's In the Know Naptime Series, you will learn:
- What is an indestructible toy?
- Why you might need an indestructible toy.
- How to use commonly found items to adapt your existing toys and make them indestructible.
Bring your questions and ideas to share! The first 50 Ohio registrants who attend will receive a kit of supplies to help make toys indestructible. Both professionals and parents are always welcome at our trainings and can receive giveaways. Register here.

Healthy Beginnings at Home Helps Infant Vitality
Through the Chief Strategy Office, DCY provides grant funding to the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) for the Healthy Beginnings at Home (HBAH) project. HBAH provides rental assistance and housing stabilization services to unstably housed pregnant individuals at risk of infant mortality. The program includes rental assistance, access to maternal and child health care services, social service supports, and activities to foster long-term housing stability. Services are currently provided to approximately 60 families in Akron and Columbus but are planned to expand to Cleveland and Dayton in SFY25.
Research of the project in 2023 had encouraging results. Babies were more likely to be born full-term and at a healthy birth weight. Babies were less likely to be admitted to the NICU and when admitted, had shorter stays. And Medicaid claims for infants were lower in cost.
