DAS Director Kathleen Madden added her signature to the final granite panel that will soon be installed on the Rhodes State Office Tower as a project to modernize the building nears its completion.
She was joined by Cheryl Lyman, Executive Director of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), and Kimberly Murnieks, Director of the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) and Chair of the OFCC. The OFCC is the construction partner on the project with DAS and Madden is also a member of the OFCC.
The panel is located in the lobby under the Great Seal of the State of Ohio and DAS is inviting people to sign the panel through Wednesday.
More than 3,000 windows were replaced since the modernization project began. The other major part of the project – the granite repair work – is expected to conclude in January. The tower is the tallest building in downtown Columbus, and at 41 stories, it is also the tallest building in State government.

One month to MLK Award nomination deadline
The deadline to submit your nomination for the Ohio MLK Awards is quickly approaching!
The annual awards are hosted by Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, which receives administrative support from DAS, and honor Ohio individuals and organizations for their work to keep Dr. King’s dream alive.
“In life, Dr. King stood up for the disadvantaged and oppressed. More than a half-century later, his incredible courage in the face of resistance continues to inspire us,” said McKinley Brown, Chair of the Commission. “The Commission is honored to recognize Ohioans who embody Dr. King’s vision of equality and remind each of us of our own power to affect change.”
The awards feature five award categories recognizing Ohioans carrying on Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolent social and economic equity.
Award winners will be recognized at the 2022 Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration. More details about the event, which is held each January leading up to the MLK holiday, will be available in the coming months.
