We know how important Barack Community Center is to the neighborhood, and we’re making progress toward reopening it safely and as quickly as possible. We’re also making sure you can continue accessing programs and activities while repairs are underway.
You may have noticed the damaged roof has not been tarped. Because of the type of damage, it isn’t safe or practical to cover. Fortunately, leaving it open will not cause additional damage. The airflow is helping the building dry out and reducing the risk of mold.
Behind the scenes, we’ve protected equipment and other areas of the building, secured necessary authorizations and hired contractors to move repairs forward.
While Barack Community Center is closed, we’re still here for you! Fall programs have moved to nearby community centers, including Marion Franklin and Driving Park. Saturday morning youth basketball activities have also moved to Marion Franklin. You’re welcome at any of our community centers for programs, activities and opportunities to connect. Find a community center close to home or work.
Our goal is to reopen Barack Community Center in late spring 2027. We appreciate your patience as we work to safely welcome everyone back. Stay up to date on the progress.
