The City of Columbus has released the public review draft of the Zone In Phase Two: Economic and Housing Opportunity proposal — the next step in the city’s ongoing effort to modernize its more than 70-year-old zoning code.
The proposal includes updates to zoning districts and development standards for additional mixed-use areas, industrial and warehouse areas, and business and institutional campuses.
These changes matter because zoning helps shape how and where Columbus grows. This proposal would create more opportunities for housing, support businesses and jobs, and provide greater flexibility for employment and institutional areas to evolve with the needs of a growing city.

Public Comment Begins August 25
A 60-day public comment period will begin Tuesday, August 25, inviting residents, businesses and other community stakeholders to ask questions, share feedback and participate in the process.
Beginning August 25, you can visit columbus.gov/zoningupdate to take the Zone In Phase Two Survey and find additional opportunities to provide feedback.
Columbus City Council will also hold a series of public hearings during the public comment period, providing opportunities to learn more about the proposal, ask questions and provide testimony.

Also beginning August 25, the Zone In Gallery will open to the public, offering an opportunity to explore the proposal in-person, take a closer look at the proposed zoning map and changes, and talk directly with members of the Zone In team.

Throughout the public comment period, the Zone In team will continue meeting with residents and stakeholders across Columbus through Area Commission and civic association presentations, community and stakeholder meetings, a public webinar and other opportunities to participate.
The public comment period will run from August 25 through October 24, 2026.
