If you haven’t visited the Topiary Garden at Deaf School Park, this is the perfect time to go! Tucked behind the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Main Library, the garden recreates Georges Seurat’s iconic painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LaGrande Jatte, using more than 50 sculpted topiaries shaped by Columbus artist James T. Mason and his wife, Elaine. With Seurat’s birthday on Dec. 2, it’s a great moment to explore this living tribute—complete with strolling couples, parasols and even a small dog. Don’t miss the “As He Saw It” viewpoint that aligns with Seurat’s original perspective. And while the original painting hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbus’ own topiary masterpiece offers an unforgettable way to experience it close to home.
