Bringing to Light Our Common Threads: An Exhibition of Women’s Voices and Visions
COLUMBUS - The Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center is proud to present What Do We Protect? Bringing To Light Our Common Threads, a group exhibition curated by artist Andrea Downs and featuring new works by Eva Crawford, Michelle "Bunny" Gregory, Elizabeth Palmisano, Kathie Roig, Rosalia Torres-Weiner and Tracy Watts.
On view in the Main Gallery from May 16 through June 21, this powerful exhibition centers the lived experiences of women and asks a timely, essential question: What do we protect? The artists, working across a range of media, explore themes of safety, identity, vulnerability and care—offering deeply personal and universally resonant reflections on resilience, loss and connection.
“As artists, as women, and as individuals moving through uncertain times, we recognize the urgency of safeguarding what is sacred: our communities, our relationships, our stories and our freedoms,” said curator Andrea Downs. “Our work is a response, a reflection and a call to action. It embodies care—for others, for ourselves and for the spaces we call home.”
The exhibition was born from a virtual gathering in early 2023, where the participating artists began sharing ideas and experiences around this unifying theme. By April of that year, the monthly meetings had evolved into something more than creative collaboration—an intentional space for witnessing, listening and mutual support, affectionately called Campfire. What emerged is a collection of artworks that illuminate the common threads binding us together.
Visitors are invited to join the artists for the opening reception on Friday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., a celebration of both the work on display and the community behind it.
The exhibit will be on view from May 16 through June 21 at the Tyson Cultural Arts Center, located at 139 W. Main St.
