Columbus, OH – Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is proud to announce that Kennedy Billups, assistant manager of the Applying Purpose and Passion to Service (APPS) Job Readiness Program, has been recognized as one of 30 rising stars in the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) 30 Under 30 Program. This prestigious honor highlights young professionals making a significant impact in their communities and the field of recreation and parks.
“Kennedy exemplifies the future of recreation and parks,” said Bernita A. We are incredibly proud to see her hard work and passion recognized on a national level.”
The NRPA’s 30 Under 30 Program, a collaboration between the NRPA Young Professional Network and Parks & Recreation magazine, celebrates leaders who are everyday champions in their communities. Kennedy’s work in creating opportunities for youth, fostering inclusion and advocating for underrepresented communities perfectly aligns with the program’s mission.
“I am truly honored to be recognized as one of NRPA’s 30 Under 30,” said Kennedy Billups. “This award is a reflection of the amazing community I serve and the incredible team I work with. It’s inspiring to see the power of parks and recreation in uplifting individuals and creating spaces where everyone can thrive.”

Her community outreach initiatives provided vital resources to thousands of residents, creating inclusive and engaging experiences across historically underserved neighborhoods.
Her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is equally impactful. As a founding member of the City’s first women’s employee resource group and a member of the department's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, Kennedy advocates for policies that empower and uplift marginalized voices.
