The waste produced by residents and businesses in central Ohio is staggering. Each resident generates an average of nine to 10 pounds of waste daily, with about half ending up in the county landfill. Given the limited landfill space, it's more crucial than ever to reuse, recycle, compost, or divert as much waste as possible.
Franklin County residents and businesses dispose of over a million tons of material annually, more than 76 percent of that being recyclable or compostable. Although our recycling rate exceeds the national average, we can still improve!
Residents living in single-family homes, multi-family buildings with four or fewer units, or condominiums/apartments using 90- or 300-gallon trash containers serviced by the City are eligible for weekly recycling pickup. Unsure about what’s recyclable? Use the Waste Wizard tool to find out.
If you lack curbside recycling or have items that won't fit in your bin, you can drop them off at a Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) recycling dumpster near you. Visit RecycleRight.org for more information.
Let’s work together to protect our environment - become a champion for recycling!
