Bridging Communities: Milestones Reached on Souder Trail Pedestrian Bridge
COLUMBUS – In a significant stride toward enhanced connectivity and accessibility, construction on the 420-foot pedestrian bridge along the Souder Trail in Franklinton is advancing. The Franklinton/Souder Avenue project is creating a transformative landscape, introducing a new pedestrian bridge over the Scioto River and an adjoining trail along Souder Avenue to West Broad Street.
The project offers several benefits to the neighborhood and City as a whole:
-
Regional Connectivity: The new connector will facilitate easy access to the regional trail network for thousands of residents and employees in Franklinton.
-
Downtown Proximity: Residents and workers in Franklinton will be mere minutes away from downtown and the vibrant Arena District.
-
Enhanced Safety: The project improves safety along the Souder Avenue corridor, replacing the narrow 4-foot-wide walkway currently in use by trail users.
-
Trail Loop Completion: The project completes the long-awaited Downtown Scioto trail loop, spanning 3.5 miles around the Scioto Mile.
The Souder Avenue bridge will also improve the experience for those attending events and participating in races and walks in the area, ensuring a safe crossing of the Scioto River.
The new beams for the 420-foot pedestrian bridge were set at the end of 2023.
The project is scheduled to open in early July 2024.
