Columbus Public Service Changes for Christmas and New Year's Day

No Trash, Recycling or Yard Waste Collection on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

Trash Collection:

City of Columbus trash collection service will not be provided on Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas or on Monday, Jan 1, 2024, in observance of New Year’s Day.

For residents assigned a collection color, trash pickup will rotate forward by one day the week of the Christmas holiday:

Monday, Dec. 25:                           NO COLLECTION

Tuesday, Dec. 26:                          Gray

Wednesday, Dec. 27:                    Navy

Thursday, Dec. 28:                        Pink

Friday, Dec. 29:                              Ruby

Note: For GOLD collection areas, a collection will be made on Friday, Dec. 22, and on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The color-coded collection schedule will rotate forward again on Monday, Jan. 1:

Monday, Jan. 1:                              NO COLLECTION

Tuesday, Jan. 2:                             Gold

Wednesday Jan. 3:                        Gray

Thursday, Jan. 4:                           Navy

Friday, Jan. 5:                                 Pink

Monday, Jan. 8:                              Ruby

The color-coded collection schedule will rotate forward again on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 15.

For residents not assigned a collection color: If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, your trash pickup will be delayed by one day during the week of the holiday.

Recycling and Yard Waste Collection: Weekly recycling and biweekly yard waste service with a collection day that falls on or after the holiday will be delayed by one day during the week of the holiday, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday.

The Refuse Collection Waste and Reuse Convenience Center, 2100 Alum Creek Dr., will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, but will be open normal hours Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for residents to drop off acceptable items for reuse or recycling. Parking Kiosks and Meters: Motorists may park free of charge at parking kiosks and meters on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. Parking restriction signage at some meters will be enforced, including but not limited to morning and evening rush hours and zones marked for valets, taxis, loading, handicapped-only and residential parking permit areas.

Offices Closed: Department offices, including the Parking Violations Bureau and the Right-of-Way Permits Office, will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1. Permits may be filed online at https://ca.columbus.gov/ca/
