Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Thanks City for a Successful Summer
With summer coming to an end, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department wants to thank the residents of the City of Columbus for making the summer of 2023 such a success!
“Part of what makes summer so satisfying is seeing the residents of Columbus take advantage of the Recreation and Parks programming,” said Bernita A. Reese, M.S., CPRP, director of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. “At the end of the day, it’s our community members who make events successful, and we want to thank them for making the summer of 2023 so memorable.”
The summer months saw Columbus Recreation and Parks host 37 festivals and community events, including staples like Jazz & Rib Fest and CBUS Soul Fest. Also included were recurring events like Cap City Experiences, Wednesdays on the Green, Dorrian Days and Columbus Symphony community concerts. In all, 223,000 individuals were present at these summer events, which were free to the public.
This year, 9,400 children and youth attended the department’s summer camps and activities, which are high-quality, low-cost programs offering families an engaging environment for children that allows them to learn and grow when school is out. Similarly, the department’s Food Office provided 241,000 meals to youth, ensuring they had a healthy lunch while school was not in session.
