Triple Threat 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament Kicks Off New Inspire Sports Program
COLUMBUS – Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, Columbus Division of Police and Columbus Division of Fire are partnering to create a new program that teaches the City’s youth important skills in a fun way using sports!
Inspire Sports, a Parks and Protectors Alliance, kicks off next month with the Triple Threat 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament. The program moves beyond the game and uses sports to help youth develop the skills needed to be successful in life. First responders mentor youth through sports leagues, tournaments and events.
“This collaborative initiative between three integral City departments that will equip our youth in Columbus with important life skills that will help them build strong futures,” said Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “Opportunities like this lift up our youth and our City by creating alternatives to negative behaviors and laying a foundation for the future.”
“This great partnership is a way for our City’s first responders, who fill a critical role for all residents here in central Ohio, to invest in Columbus youth and teach them about integrity, respect and good character,” said Columbus Department of Public Safety Director Kate McSweeney-Pishotti. “This gives our first responders a new way to give back to the community and improve safety.”
About the Tournament
The Triple Threat 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ohio Fire Academy, located at 3639 Parsons Ave., 43207. This event is for youth ages 12-14. The cost is $20 per team.
All teams are guaranteed to play three games, and they will receive lunch and giveaways. The community is invited to watch the competition, and enjoy attractions, food trucks, music and more! This will be a great competitive and fun event for Columbus youth to enjoy showing off their basketball skills in front of the community.
“Inspire Sports is more than a game, it teaches youth in our community about sportsmanship and what it means to grow into a responsible adult,” said Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Director Bernita Reese, M.S., CPRP. “This upcoming Triple Threat 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament will be a great way for youth to develop valuable skills and relationships in this program.”
