-
INVESTING IN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE: Council President Pro Tem Rob Dorans, chair of the Public Utilities committee, is sponsoring Ordinance 1724-2023 to extend the contract and increase funding on an indefinite quantity contract with Watershed Organic Lawn Care to build a number of Bioretention facilities in the right-of-way and/or on City owned property. Bioretention facilities improve water quality through soil and media filtration and stormwater detention, among other things.
-
STRONGLY OPPOSING ISSUE 1: Councilmember Emmanuel Remy is sponsoring Resolution 0129X-2023 in opposition to Issue 1. If passed, it will require a supermajority of 60% of Ohio voters to amend the state's constitution; thus, ending the sacred principle of "one person, one vote". This requirement is a blatantly extreme measure that will diminish the power of Ohioans. Columbus City Council urges everyone to vote NO on August 8, 2023. FUNDING THE LINDEN GREEN LINE PROJECT: Councilmember Mitchell Brown, chair of the Recreation and Parks Committee, is sponsoring Ordinance 1798-2023 to authorize the Director of Recreation and Parks Department to enter into a grant agreement with Ohio Public Works Commission and accept a 2023 Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program grant of $2,474,000 while matching local funding for the Linden Green Line Project. The first of its kind in Central Ohio, this project will create a new 58 acre linear park stretching along seven miles of an abandoned rail corridor, from Windsor Park, near 17th Avenue, to Cooper Park in the Northland Community—will provide the Linden and Northland communities with space to enjoy the outdoors and connect with each other for generations to come.
