Did you know that feeding Canada geese is bad for them? Park visitors like bringing bread to the parks to feed Canada geese, but doing this can be fatal. Additionally, one goose can produce 1.5 pounds of feces per day, which means large numbers of geese can create a mess in parks. Canada geese can be harmful to humans and parkland. They carry harmful pathogens, bacteria and diseases, which can spread illnesses among humans and pets. Also, when there are large numbers of geese, their grazing damages parkland and causes soil erosion, while their feces pollutes the water and creates conditions for dangerous algal blooms. Learn more about why you shouldn’t feed Canada geese.
