In honor of Pride Month, we took the opportunity to interview Adam Pulskamp, the president of Stonewall Sports Columbus, to learn about the importance of space and inclusive spaces in sports. Since its founding in 2017, Stonewall Sports Columbus’ mission has been to provide an inclusive, low cost, high fun sports league that is managed as a non-profit with a philanthropic heart.
Pulskamp noted that there was a need for a safe space in the Columbus sports community for LGBTQIA+ individuals and by providing that space, they create an open and inviting space for individuals with diverse identities and where this diversity is seen as a strength and unifier. Pulskamp goes on to state that bringing together different backgrounds in sports helps build community, camaraderie and a strong support system that individuals can have outside of their families and jobs.
Currently, the organization offers kickball, dodgeball, yoga and bocce ball. There are 479 players for kickball with 26 teams that play at Driving Park. By providing an inclusive, fun environment, Stonewall Sports Columbus allows members of the LGBTQIA+ community to build diverse networks and relationships that are not representative of one identity, but rather diverse and inclusive to all.

As the Columbus Crew prepares to move downtown, our community has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape 25 acres of new green space, park space and recreational programming on the near-northeast side of the City.
The Columbus Community Sports Park will be a new, centrally-located park and recreation space that will benefit nearby neighborhoods, the City and the region. It will provide much-needed access to park and recreation space to the 200,000 residents who live within three miles of the site. Facilities, fields and green space will be easily accessible to neighborhoods including: Milo Grogan, Weinland Park, Linden, North Columbus, Glen Echo, Indianola Trace, University District, Clintonville and others.
