Council President Pro Tem Elizabeth Brown, chair of the Recreation and Parks Committee will conduct a hearing to review the Recreation and Parks Department’s Urban Forestry Master Plan, a strategic and long-term investment in Columbus’s urban tree canopy.
“A healthy tree canopy improves air quality, prevents erosion and storm runoff, reduces the urban heat island effect, lowers utility bills for residents, helps mitigate the impacts of climate change, and simply makes our city a healthier and more beautiful place to live,” said Pro Tem Brown. “It is a critical investment for the future of our city to ensure a healthy canopy in every neighborhood, especially those that need additional tree coverage the most.”
The plan can be viewed at www.columbusufmp.org/get-involved.html and public comments can be submitted via this site through March 31, 2021.
Any resident wishing to appear via WebEx to provide testimony during the virtual hearing should email James Carmean at JWCarmean@columbus.gov by noon on the day of the hearing to request a WebEx speaker link. Each speaker will be limited to remarks lasting no longer than three minutes.
The hearing will be live-streamed on the City’s YouTube channel and Facebook.
