City Code 3109 Update
Dear Area Commissioner,
Attached below, please find the proposed Columbus City Code 3109 changes and the recommended best practices by-laws template that was distributed at the Columbus City Council public hearing on 12/2/19. As currently proposed, ordinance 2952-2019 would standardize all area commission terms to a length of three years, limit the number of area commission members to 17 for each commission and specify that the Department of Neighborhoods will provide technical and planning assistance to all area commissions.
The best practices by-laws template is intended to provide direction in establishing standard operating procedures for area commissions. The template will provide guidance on purpose, officers, records retention, training, meeting procedures, elections, code of conduct, conflict of interest and disqualification of members. The best practices may be voluntarily adopted, either partially or completely, by area commissions.
Thank you for the work you do every day to advance Columbus neighborhoods. We look forward to working in partnership with you to support and enhance the impact of your work. If you have further questions, please contact David Hooie at 614-645-7343 or dehooie@columbus.gov.
Sincerely,
Carla Williams-Scott Director
