Recent updates to explanation of benefit (EOB) codes effective Jan. 1, 2024
BWC is making improvements in the way adjustments and voids are processed. These improvements include creating 11 new codes to identify the specific reason an adjustment or void was executed.
Managed care organizations (MCOs) and providers can request bill adjustments and voids with these updates differentiating the circumstances. Updates are also being made to four EOB codes to clarify the descriptive reasons for denials or payment impacts.
Of special interest to providers is the description change in EOB 096. This EOB was updated to provide clarity about the reason for the denial when another outpatient hospital bill was submitted for the same date of encounter for the same injured worker and the same facility. BWC is also expiring five EOB codes that are not being used or were replaced by other codes during this recent reconciliation.
For more information
Providers with any questions about EOB changes may reach out directly to the MCO to discuss the specific bills and EOB responses in question. Relevant EOB updates will be published Jan.1 in the EOB Lookup Tool on our website, as well as in the EOB link embedded in Billing and Reimbursement Manual Policy, BRM-26, General Billing Guidelines.
