New Firefighter Grants for turnout gear – check it out
The Firefighter Exposure to Environmental Elements Grant (FEEEG) Program is accepting applications. We're using a new grant management portal to improve the experience for applicants by allowing them to complete all activities online. The program now allows for a three-year eligibility cycle. Additionally, turnout gear dryers can now be applied for as well as turnout gear for volunteer firefighters.
Watch a recent webinar on the FEEEG Program available at bwclearningcenter.com. You must have a free Learning Center account to watch. You can create an account easily, you just need your BWC policy number. Search “replay” at the top of the homepage to find past webinars.

National Fire Prevention Week
October 8 -14 is National Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire preventionTM.” You can get kid’s activities, lesson plans, safety tip sheets, and more at the National Fire Protection Association website for the campaign.
National Protect Your Hearing Month
October is National Hearing Protection Month. The It’s A Noisy Planet website has information on hearing loss for parents, kids and preteens, and educators. Other informative hearing protection sites: Too Loud! For Too Long! and the video series Teens on Noise-Induced Hearing Loss.
Annular Solar Eclipse
On Oct. 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse will cross North, Central, and South America. Ohio will see 30%-40% of the sun obscured by the moon. NASA reminds everyone, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun during an annular eclipse without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. Review these safety guidelines to prepare for safely viewing the eclipse.
