Now available! New and improved Fundamentals for Health Care Providers

Each year, more than 150,000 New Yorkers are injured or become ill on the job. These workers need and deserve accessible, high-quality medical care. The NYS Workers’ Compensation Board is seeking to recruit and retain more medical providers to help New York’s injured workers get better, get back to work, and back to their lives!

To help with this important effort, the Board has streamlined our training and resources for new providers in order to make the authorization process easier and more efficient, so you get the information you need without any hassle.

As of December 18, 2025, providers no longer need a separate CourseMill account to access new provider trainings as part of the authorization process. The trainings are now offered in a simple PDF format, making these resources easier to access and further streamlining the authorization experience. If you have any CourseMill trainings in progress, please review this updated collection instead.

The new Fundamentals for Heath Care Providers page offers brief, introductory primers on our:

  • Medical Treatment Guidelines
  • Drug Formulary
  • OnBoard, the online system for prior authorization requests
  • Medical Fee Schedules
  • Electronic billing via the CMS-1500 universal billing form
  • Impairment Guidelines

… all accessible with just a simple click! This new training package also includes a comprehensive section on understanding your obligations as a Board-authorized provider.

Providers who apply for authorization simply attest to having reviewed the training and summary of obligations when completing their online application.
