Dear Neighbors,

August is here, and there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy throughout the Town of Wappinger. From our parks and waterways to our weekly community events, this is a wonderful time to get outside, spend time with family and friends, and experience all that our Town has to offer.

I encourage residents to take advantage of our Town-owned kayak launch on Market Street in the Village of Wappingers Falls. Located along the Lower Wappinger Creek, the launch provides a beautiful opportunity to explore one of our community’s most treasured natural resources and enjoy a peaceful day on the water.

Our weekly Farmers Market at Town Hall also continues each Monday, bringing together local farms, vendors, small businesses, and neighbors. The market has quickly become a welcoming gathering place where residents can shop local, enjoy fresh products, and connect with members of our community. Our weekly Summer Concert Series continues as well, offering evenings of live music, dancing, picnics, and fun at Brexel-Schlathaus Park. I hope you will join us for these great summer traditions before the season comes to a close.

While we enjoy the summer, important work continues across our Town. Construction is steadily progressing on the new wash bay at our Highway Department facility. This project will provide our Highway team with a modern, dedicated space to properly clean and maintain Town vehicles and equipment, helping to extend the useful life of our fleet and protect the significant investment taxpayers have made in these essential resources.

Your Town government also remains focused on finding innovative ways to improve services while saving taxpayer dollars. Through responsible budgeting, in-house initiatives, strategic partnerships, and the aggressive pursuit of state and federal grants, we are advancing projects that might otherwise place a greater burden on local property taxpayers. These efforts are helping us improve our water and sewer infrastructure, modernize Town facilities, strengthen our parks, preserve open space, and provide the quality services our residents deserve.

There is a great deal happening throughout Wappinger, and I am proud of the progress we continue to make together. Thank you to our dedicated Town employees, volunteers, local organizations, vendors, and residents who help make our programs and events so successful.

Much Needed Road Work Coming to NYS Route 376

After much advocacy, the Town of Wappinger is proud to announce that NYS DOT will be completely repaving NYS Route 376.

The State’s contractor has advised the Office of the Town Supervisor that work will begin the week of August 2 and mostly occur at night to avoid traffic congestion.

Any and all questions should be directed to the NYS DOT Region 8 Office at (845) 431-5750.

TOWN OF WAPPINGER STAFF URGES BOAT OWNERS, FAMILIES, AND, FRIENDS TO BE AWARE OF PARKING AREAS AROUND CHELSEA PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH

Last year, approximately June 2025, the Town of Wappinger completed restoration of the Chelsea Public Boat Launch. As you are enjoying the boating season this year, please be mindful of the two parking locations highlighted in red in the image below.

The parking areas are as follows:
1) The lot at the end of Bank Street, on the southern side
2) Along the southern end of Front Street, on the river side.  

What a wonderful afternoon at the latest Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls meeting!

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini was honored to serve as the guest speaker and draw the winning raffle tickets for today’s event. He highlighted the strong partnership between the Rotary Club and the Town of Wappinger, reflected on the many successful projects we've accomplished together, and shared his excitement for future collaborations that will continue to benefit our community.

Reminder: The Back-to-School Supply Drive is underway through August 14!

If you'd like to help local students prepare for the new school year, donations of new school supplies can be dropped off at: Wappinger Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, NY   Items needed include: Pencils, pens, looks leaf paper, notebooks, crayons, markers, highlighters, glue, tape, folders, binders, etc.

Town of Wappinger Celebrates Major Investment in Clean Drinking Water with Hilltop Well Field Phase II Filtration Improvements

Bipartisan collaboration is delivering
real results for the Town of Wappinger!

WAPPINGER, N.Y. – July 8, 2026 – The Town of Wappinger proudly celebrated the completion of renovations and the announcement of the Hilltop Well Field Phase II Filtration Improvements Project at the Hilltop Water Treatment Facility, marking a significant investment in the Town’s commitment to delivering safe, clean, and reliable drinking water to residents. The project reflects a strong bipartisan collaboration led by Congressman Pat Ryan and Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, alongside county and state partners who worked together to advance critical infrastructure improvements for the community.

The Hilltop Well Field Phase II project includes the installation of advanced water treatment and carbon filtration systems designed to improve water quality, increase operational efficiency, and strengthen the long-term reliability of Wappinger’s public water system. The improvements address previous isolated concerns while ensuring continued compliance with federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. In addition to protecting public health, the investment is expected to reduce future maintenance needs and infrastructure costs, helping minimize the need for more extensive system upgrades in the years ahead.

Unlike many municipal systems that draw from the Hudson River, the Hilltop Water Treatment Facility sources its water from Wappinger Creek and includes the Town’s first municipally owned well site. These upgrades represent an important milestone in preserving and strengthening Wappinger’s independent, locally sourced water supply for current and future residents.

“This project represents an investment not only in our infrastructure but in the health, safety, and future of our community,” said Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini. “By modernizing our water treatment systems today, we are ensuring that residents continue to receive clean, dependable drinking water while reducing long-term costs and building a more resilient water system for generations to come.”

The Town recognized the many partners whose support helped make the project possible, including Congressman Pat Ryan; Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini and support from Councilman Al Casella, Dutchess County Legislators Kevin Giles, Robert Faust, Alix Winsby, and Town Engineering Consultant Mike Tremper; and the CAMO team. Their collaboration reflects a shared commitment to investing in resilient public infrastructure that benefits the entire Wappinger community.

Town of Wappinger Proudly Welcomes Hometown Soccer Star Tyler Adams Back to Martz Field

WAPPINGER, N.Y. – The Town of Wappinger proudly welcomed hometown soccer star Tyler Adams back to Martz Field, where his journey in the sport first began, to celebrate his efforts in the World Cup as well as celebrate the newly renovated playing field named in his honor last year. In collaboration with Scotts, and Every Kid Sports, the Town of Wappinger hosted today’s event that highlighted the importance of investing in high-quality community green spaces that encourage youth development, healthy lifestyles, and a lifelong love of the game!

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini said, “Welcome home Tyler! Your Town is proud of you; they rooted for you every step of the way and you are a true inspiration to the next generation of soccer players right here in Wappinger.”

After competing on soccer’s biggest international stage, Adams returned to the Field that helped shape his career to reflect his hometown, his childhood, and soccer journey. Adams connected Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini with this partnership with Scotts and Every Kid Sports to create more opportunities for young athletes to play and develop their skills on healthy, natural grass fields. He emphasized the important role that the Town of Wappinger played in his success and why investing in the next generation remains deeply important to him.

Town Supervisor Cavaccini was proud to welcome Adams home to Martz Field and joined representatives from Scotts, the Town of Wappinger Parks & Recreation Department, Councilwoman Heather O’Dell, Councilman Al Casella, Senator Rob Rolison, and Assemblyman A.J. Beephan in celebrating the improvements of the Martz Field and ribbon-cutting ceremony, highlighting the community’s shared commitment to investing in local recreational spaces.

The Town extends its appreciation to Scotts for partnering with Wappinger through the Keep It Real campaign and for its investment in community recreation. The Keep It Real initiative, a partnership between ScottsMiracle-Gro and Every Kid Sports, is helping level the playing field for youth sports while highlighting the benefits of healthy, natural grass fields and creating greater access to recreational opportunities for young athletes across the country.

As Tyler Adams’ return to Martz Field demonstrated, hometown success stories can inspire future generations. The Town of Wappinger has always been a community that believes in supporting one another, and seeing one of its own return home to invest in the next generation is a powerful reminder that giving back comes full circle.

One minute it's inspecting construction projects, the next it's meeting with residents, securing grants, working on a $21 million budget, planning community events, discussing public safety, supporting local businesses, or finding new ways to make Wappinger an even better place to call home.

No two days are ever the same—but every day has one goal: serving our community. We tried to capture it all, but the work of a Town Supervisor doesn't stop when the camera does.

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini welcomed all to our Town’s first Reading of the Declaration of Independence ceremony

The Ceremony began with Wappinger resident Brendan Sohan’s moving performance of the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by New York State Assemblyman Anil Beephan. Town Clerk Joseph Paoloni shared historical context, reflecting on the significance of our nation’s founding and the enduring ideals that continue to unite us. We were also joined by Town Councilwoman Heather O’Dell, Dutchess County Legislator Kevin Giles, and Fishkill Town Clerk Cooper M. Leatherwood.

Town Supervisor Cavaccini commemorated the occasion with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, honoring the courage, vision, and sacrifices that shaped our country.

Our July Town Board Meeting was
truly one for the history books.

As we continue celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence, we were honored to hold our regular Town Board Meeting at the historic Mesier Homestead in the Village of Wappingers Falls—the first Town Board meeting held in the Village in 41 years.

To commemorate this special occasion, the Town Board, Town Clerk, and I donned colonial attire as we conducted the people's business in one of the most historic locations in our community. It was a fitting reminder that the principles of representative government and public service that began 250 years ago continue to guide us today.

Wappinger's story is deeply intertwined with the story of our nation's founding, and it was an honor to celebrate our shared history while continuing to serve the residents of our Town. We are proud to support the Wappingers Historical Society in their incredible work of preserving and promoting our community’s rich history.

The State of New York needs to take action on Route 9D

Studies prove what we have known all along, there is too much congestion in our community and heavy truck traffic has no place in Hughsonville or Wappingers Falls.

I am proud to have partnered with Fishkill Town Supervisor Ozzy Albra, Village of Wappingers Falls Mayor Kevin Huber, and the Dutchess County Transportation Council to move forward with a real plan that has been formally presented to the State of New York for their corrective action and capital planning.

This is their responsibility, our neighbors need their help.

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini had the pleasure of hosting the prelaunch of Bobby: Wishing on a Star, a heartfelt children’s book written by Town of Wappinger resident Frank Palmietto, and beautifully illustrated by renowned artist Emilio Martinez.

The launch of this inspiring project was celebrated alongside the LEGACY Art Show at The Chapel at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park.

The event was also attended by County Legislators Robert Faust and Kevin Giles, Second Ward Councilwoman Heather O’Dell and Fourth Ward Councilman Al Casella, as well as many residents and tourists alike showcased incredible artwork by Emilio Martinez and TATS CRU (Nicer), bringing together art, creativity, and community in a truly special way.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this event such a success. Supporting local artists, authors, and creative talent helps inspire the next generation and strengthens our community.

We are so grateful to our friends at Pines at Poughkeepsie Center for helping make this day possible. Your generosity and support is what made this celebration memorable!

The Town of Wappinger was proud to celebrate with 400 of our neighbors for our Senior Picnic in conjunction with Dutchess County Office for the Aging at our Robinson Lane Baseball Complex today! 💙

The day was filled with delicious food, live music, dancing, and wonderful company. It was a fantastic afternoon celebrating our incredible senior community. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event so special!

On July 14th, we held our annual Rummikub Tournament for members of the Town of Wappinger Senior Center.

Battling for the grand prize, which was a premium edition of Rummikub, contestants went through many rounds before a winner was declared. As always, we had a ton of fun!

Meet the Town of Wappinger's newest employees... 🐐

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini is excited to introduce our newest team members—Reggie, Franklin, and Honey!

The Town of Wappinger has collaborated with the Kolb Family and Carnwath Community Farming to naturally clear overgrown areas at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park. These hardworking goats are busy eating invasive plant species, helping restore and beautify our community spaces.

Most importantly, this innovative approach allows the Town to maintain and improve our parks while saving taxpayer money, without adding any extra cost to Town residents! Instead of relying solely on traditional vegetation clearing methods, we're using an environmentally friendly, cost-effective solution that benefits both our community and our budget.
The goats are currently working throughout Carnwath 's 99 acres, with plans to expand this natural clearing method to help manage overgrown areas across the Town's nearly 1,000 acres of public land.

Supervisor Cavaccini said, “We are proud to continue finding creative, environmentally responsible ways to improve our parks while delivering real savings for Wappinger taxpayers.”

If you visit Carnwath Farms, be sure to stop by and see our newest employees in action! Please remember they are working in areas with poison ivy and other invasive plants, so admire them from a safe distance and enter those areas at your own risk.
