July 2026
SUMMER NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD, IN YOUR TOWN OF WAPPINGER
Whether you enjoy relaxing at Schlathaus Park during concert nights, boating on the river, or catching some great deals at our new Farmer's Market, we hope you are having a great start to the summer season!
Dear Neighbors,
On behalf of the Town Board and our entire Wappinger Town Government Workforce, welcome to July! As we gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day, we wish each of you a safe, happy, and meaningful Fourth of July.
This year holds special significance as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence, a milestone that reminds us not only of our nation's founding, but of the extraordinary role our own community played in securing that freedom. The Hudson River Valley was the strategic heart of the American Revolution, and Wappinger and Fishkill stood at its center. Brave patriots like Brigadier General Jacobus Swartwout, a proud son of Wappinger, served alongside General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, helping lead Dutchess County and our young nation toward liberty. Their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us today.
As part of our year-long celebration, I invite you to join us throughout our All-American Week of community events! Enjoy fresh local produce and vendors at our NEW weekly Monday Wappinger Farmers Market, cheer on our hometown hero Tyler Adams and Team USA at today's World Cup Watch Party, kick up your boots during Country Line Dancing, and experience history come to life at our first-ever public Reading of the Declaration of Independence. These events celebrate not only our nation's history but the strong sense of community that makes Wappinger such a special place to call home.
As we celebrate, please remember to stay safe during this week's extreme heat. We encourage everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day, and check in on neighbors who may need assistance. Wappinger Town Hall and the Grinnell Public Library will serve as cooling centers today and tomorrow for anyone seeking relief from the heat.
Last month also marks another important milestone for our community. After months of public discussion and careful planning, the Town Board adopted comprehensive updates to our Zoning Code, ensuring future development better reflects the true geographic capacity of our land and does not contribute to adding significant density of our Town. These changes account for wetlands, steep slopes, environmental constraints, and infrastructure while preserving the character of our neighborhoods. We also strengthened our wetlands and stormwater protection laws, taking meaningful steps to prevent overdevelopment, reduce congestion, and responsibly protect Wappinger for generations to come.
Summer is officially underway, and there is no shortage of opportunities to enjoy everything our Town has to offer. Summer Camp is in full swing at both Martz Field and Castle Point Park, our Summer Concert Series continues, parks are bustling with activity, and our trails, playgrounds, museums, waterfronts, and boat launches are waiting to be explored. Whether you're spending a day at Carnwath Farms, launching a boat or kayak, hiking through Reese Park Nature Preserve, or visiting one of our local historical sites, I encourage everyone to get outside and experience all that makes Wappinger such an incredible place to live.
As you're out enjoying the season, please remember to drive carefully. Our partnership with the Wappinger Patrol of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office continues with targeted speed enforcement in residential neighborhoods, and our newly installed digital speed signs are collecting real-time traffic data to help identify speeding concerns and improve public safety. Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone.
Thank you for making Wappinger such a vibrant, welcoming, and patriotic community. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Independence Day, a safe and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to seeing you at our many events throughout the month.
Happy Fourth of July, and God Bless America!
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Keep Family, Friends & Pets Safe This 4th of July by Staying Mindful of These Tips!
The flyer below outlines five key safety practices from University Health and Safe Kids Worldwide to keep families safe around fireworks:
-
Leave it to professionals: The safest option is to completely avoid using fireworks at home.
-
Avoid sparklers: Sparklers can heat up to 1,200 degrees, so substitute them with glow sticks or silly string.
-
Aim safely: Always point fireworks away from homes, people, and flammable materials.
-
Maintain distance: Stand far back from lit fireworks and never investigate a device that fails to go off.
-
Prepare for emergencies: Keep a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water nearby and know how to use them.

Roof-A-Thon is back where it all began! 🎶🎸
Last Friday was officially “WPDH Day” in the Town of Wappinger as we celebrated the radio station's incredible 50th Anniversary! We are proud that, through the efforts of our Wappinger Town Code Enforcement Office, we were able to help bring this iconic and nostalgic tradition back to its original home, high atop the roof of the Citgo at the corner of Old Hopewell Road and Route 9.
|
|
|
It was an honor for Supervisor Cavaccini to join “The Boris Show” Friday morning to help kick off this unforgettable weekend of fun, community, and giving.
Most importantly, every dollar raised during Roof-A-Thon supports Sparrow's Nest, providing meals and hope to local families facing cancer. It's a cause that truly changes lives.
Be sure to stop by next time, say hello, make a donation, and help celebrate 50 years of WPDH while supporting an incredible organization. Let's make this the biggest Roof-A-Thon yet! 💥

Wappinger Town Highway Department Installs New Permanent Digital Speed Signs
Our Highway Department is installing new permanent digital speed signs throughout some of our busiest residential town roadways as part of our ongoing commitment to neighborhood safety.
|
|
|
These signs do more than simply display a driver’s speed, they also collect real-time traffic volume and speed data, providing valuable information with law enforcement to help identify problem areas and implement targeted patrols where speeding is most prevalent.
By combining technology, data, and proactive enforcement, we are taking another important step toward making our neighborhoods safer for residents, families, pedestrians, and motorists alike.
Congratulations to the Roy C. Ketcham High School Class of 2026!
🎉🎓
As a proud alumni of Ketcham, it was an honor to proclaim June 28, 2026 “RCK Class of 2026 Day” in our great Town of Wappinger! It’s always a pleasure to be invited back to my alma mater and celebrate with the students, families, faculty and staff of our RCK community!
A truly special part of the ceremony was recognizing those students who have enlisted in our Nation’s military.
To see the students graduate at Ketcham, their home, is something so special and I was especially impressed with the surprise fireworks show that sent these young men and women off into the world after the ceremony.
I am so proud of all of our graduating seniors who persevered through it all and they made through to the finish line!
Congratulations Class of 2026, the 64th class to graduate from Roy C. Ketcham High School!!! 🧑🏼🎓🔴🔵

Congratulations to the Myers Corners Elementary Class of 2026! 🎉🎓
Returning to Myers Corners Elementary School was a special moment for Supervisor Cavaccini as he had the honor of congratulating the sixth grade Class of 2026 on their graduation.
To these amazing students, the future Roy C. Ketcham / John Jay High School Classes of 2032, remember that you are never too young to accomplish your goals. Dream big, work hard, and never place limits on what you can achieve.
As you begin this next chapter, stay proud of where you come from, embrace every opportunity ahead, and always believe in yourself. The future is bright, and I can’t wait to see all that you accomplish!

Wappinger Historical Society hosted a truly magical evening at “The Chapel at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park”
Our Town was proud to be the venue at our beautifully renovated space where we honored local community members Dani Masterson and Rosemary & Denny Evaul for their dedication to community, culture, education, and theater.

The Town of Wappinger paused on Sunday, June 14th to recognize Flag Day.
The flag of the United States of America has neither "been created by rhetoric, nor by sentences in a declaration or the ink used to pen the bill of rights.
|
|
|
It has been created by the experiences of a great people." Our flag is the “the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.”
