CELEBRATING THE TOWN OF WAPPINGER COMMUNITY!
COMMUNITY DAY INFORMATION BELOW
Dear Neighbors,
As we welcome the month of May, I am excited to share the continued progress, energy, and community spirit that make the Town of Wappinger such a special place to call home.
This month brings one of our most anticipated events of the year—Wappinger Community Day on Saturday, May 16. This year’s celebration carries special significance as we honor America 250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. Community Day is a wonderful opportunity for neighbors, families, and local organizations to come together for a day filled with pride, fun, and connection. We encourage everyone to come out, enjoy the festivities, and celebrate all that makes our community strong.
We are also proud to announce that the new bridge at the Reese Park Town Nature Preserve has been successfully installed. This long-awaited improvement enhances accessibility and safety while preserving the natural beauty of this treasured space. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with a dedication ceremony later this month.
Another meaningful initiative underway is the installation of brand-new Hometown Heroes banners throughout the Town. Earlier this year, the Town Board took action to fully replace the program, ensuring that we continue to properly honor the brave men and women from our community who have served our country. These banners serve as a visible and lasting tribute to their sacrifice and dedication.
Across Wappinger, road reconstruction projects are moving along expeditiously, improving infrastructure and quality of life for our residents. We appreciate your patience as we continue this important work and remain committed to delivering long-term results.
At the same time, we continue our comprehensive review of the Town’s zoning code, with a clear focus on preserving open space and protecting the character of our community. A key highlight of this effort is the acquisition of the Cranberry Hills property, a significant step forward in safeguarding valuable land for future generations.
There is truly so much happening in Wappinger, and it is all made possible by the support and engagement of our residents. As always, my Administration remains committed to transparency, progress, and preserving the qualities that make our Town such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
I look forward to seeing many of you throughout the month—especially at Community Day.
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

A Look At Cranberry Hills🌿
This month, Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Clerk Joseph Paoloni, and Fourth Ward Councilman Al Casella toured the site — over 300 acres of preserved open space, wetlands, and forest… right in your backyard.
As the Town of Wappinger finalizes the acquisition, the property will remain closed — but we look forward to welcoming the community for a future grand opening.
Stay tuned… we’re just getting started 👀

On Earth Day, Town Supervisor Cavaccini, Members of the Wappinger Town Board, and Town Staff took a historic step forward for land preservation and wildlife conservation in the Town of Wappinger.
Supervisor, Cavaccini proudly signed the contract to preserve and acquire 326 acres known as Cranberry Hills as they now begin the process of transforming it into a true 400 acre total “Central Park” for passive recreation. The property will remain closed to the public at this time but we are excited that this remarkable natural space is protected, preventing the overdevelopment of this community.
This is more than a land acquisition, it’s an investment in our future, conservation, and the quality of life for every resident.
Wappinger Town Highway Crew are Making Excellent Progress in 2026 Repaving Our Roadways!
The Town of Wappinger Highway Department has begun its annual paving program this past month, with work expected to continue through the spring season.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, the Wappinger Town Board, and Superintendent of Highways Michael J. Sheehan are proud to announce the repaving and improvement of 20 town-owned roadways, totaling approximately 4.64 miles.
The Town of Wappinger remains committed to investing in its infrastructure and enhancing roadway conditions throughout the community. This year’s paving schedule reflects ongoing efforts to improve safety, extend the life of local roadways, and ensure a smoother travel experience for residents.
The Highway Department will notify residents on impacted roadways prior to the start of work. Notifications will include posted signage along affected streets to alert motorists and residents of upcoming paving operations.
Residents on impacted roadways are advised to avoid parking on the street during paving operations and are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions; however, temporary delays may occur.

Annual Earth Day Clean Up - A Great Success For the Town of Wappinger!
Today, we removed garbage and drugs from our streets. Our annual Town of Wappinger Earth Day Clean Up was a great success alongside our Drug Take Back Day. Special thanks to the 25 students, scouts, residents, and employees who volunteered to beautify Wappinger.
I was honored to kick off today’s event with a ceremonial tree planting ceremony at Town Hall as well as at Brexel-Schlathaus Park.
|
|
|
Our volunteers broke into groups to clean different Town, County, and State roads as well as Town properties such as Reese Park Town Nature Preserve.
The Town is appreciative of Superindentent of Highways Michael J. Sheehan for his assistance in supplying pick up sticks as well as to Longobardi Restaurant for the donation of lunch at Town Hall.
Supervisor Cavaccini & Members of the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the DAR Honor Our Nations History!
On April 20, Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini participated in a meaningful ceremonial tree planting alongside members of the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the DAR at New Hackensack Cemetery.
Together, they honored our nation’s history by carefully cleaning the headstones of deceased DAR members and American Revolutionary War soldiers, preserving their legacy for future generations.
A powerful reminder that remembrance and service go hand in hand as we continue to honor those who helped shape our country. 🇺🇸🌳

PLAY BALL! Wappinger Little League Celebrates Opening Day ⚾
It felt like Summer as we kicked off Opening Day for our Town of Wappinger Little League at Robinson Lane Baseball Complex.
As a former Wappinger Little League player myself, it was great to watch our youth back out on the fields and, as always, it was truly moving to recognize our Town of Wappinger Girls Softball Team for their incredible victory last year as our New York State Champions!

|
Special thanks to all of Little League’s volunteers, especially outgoing President Jeff Tomlins their outgoing board members, whose combined service totals decades of service in making our park one of the premier baseball complexes in the region. Good luck to our very own boys and girls of summer!
Special Congratulations on Roy C Ketcham Varsity Baseball Coach Mealy's 500th Win!
On April 23, Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini had the honor of recognizing Pat Mealy for an incredible milestone—his 500th career win leading the varsity baseball program at Roy C. Ketcham High School.
A testament to years of dedication, leadership, and passion for the game, Coach Mealy’s career has brought multiple division and state championships to our community. More importantly, he has shaped generations of student-athletes both on and off the field.
Congratulations, Coach—thank you for your lasting impact and continued excellence! ⚾👏

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, Deputy Town Supervisor Lisa Paoloni, Town Clerk Joseph P. Paoloni, and Senior Councilman William H. Beale honored to attend the Fishkill Historical Society Independence Gala celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary.
A highlight of the evening was the generous donation from residents Doug and Victoria LePerche—a scale model statue honoring Daniel Nimham, the last sachem of the Wappinger people. This meaningful piece will be placed on permanent display at Wappinger Town Hall, serving as a lasting tribute to the rich history and heritage of our community.
