LOVE IS IN THE AIR IN YOUR TOWN OF WAPPINGER
Celebrating the 2nd Annual Wedding & Vow Renewal Ceremony, which will be held this year at the Carnwath Farms Newly Renovated Chapel!
Dear Neighbors,
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it is certainly one of the busiest; and one that reminds us just how strong and caring our community truly is.
First, I extend my sincere thanks to our Highway Department and Buildings & Grounds Department crews for their around-the-clock efforts during recent snow and ice events. Whether it’s clearing Town roads in the middle of the night or ensuring our public facilities remain safe and accessible, their dedication does not go unnoticed. They work long hours in tough conditions so the rest of us can travel safely and continue our daily routines, and our entire community is grateful for our Wappinger Town workforce.
With the cold weather firmly here and Code Blue protocols in effect, I encourage everyone to check in on neighbors, especially seniors, those living alone, or anyone who may need a little extra help. A quick call, a knock on the door, or offering to pick up groceries can make a real difference. That’s what community is all about. If you know of anyone who is in need of any assistance this Winter season, please contact Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services at 845-486-3300.
February also brings opportunities to come together in positive and meaningful ways. I hope our families will take part in some of our favorite annual events, including our Vow Renewal Ceremony, Valentines for Veterans, and the always popular SmoreFest. These traditions celebrate love, service, and togetherness. They showcase the spirit that makes our Town such a special place to live.
Behind the scenes, we are already hard at work planning for the future. As we develop new initiatives for 2026, our focus remains on thoughtful planning that lessens density, preserves open space, and protects the character of our community. Enhancing quality of life, maintaining our small-town feel, and ensuring responsible growth continue to guide every decision we make.
Thank you for being engaged, caring neighbors and for the pride you take in our Town. Stay safe and stay warm.
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Once a place of quiet reflection, this former religious sanctuary has been thoughtfully transformed into a sophisticated, high-end space designed to host the most cherished moments of your life.
A Unique Venue Like No Other: The Chapel can host parties up to 200 guests and is set in the heart of Carnwath Farms’ 99.7 acres, offering unrivaled 180-degree panoramic views of the Hudson River and surrounding valley. Town of Wappinger Highway Staff and Local Residents Would like to Remind Our Neighbors:
Please DO NOT Push Snow Into the Roads
Do not plow, shovel or blow snow onto roadways. Pushing snow from driveways and sidewalks into the street creates hazards for drivers and makes roads less safe for everyone.
It can lead to slippery spots, poor visibility, and accidents. It also makes extra work for plow crews, slowing them down and making it harder to keep roads clear and safe. Please be courteous and avoid moving snow into local roadways so we can all safely get back to normal faster after this storm.

Town of Wappinger Announces Recycle Center Improvements and Cost-Saving Initiatives
Wappinger, NY — The Town of Wappinger is pleased to announce major operational improvements at the Town Recycle Center that are now fully implemented and expected to generate significant long-term cost savings while expanding services for residents.
In 2025, the Town Board authorized the purchase of a Town-owned roll-off truck and new dumpsters, allowing the Recycle Center to transition to in-house operations and eliminate reliance on a costly third-party vendor. The roll-off truck was placed into service in January 2026 and is projected to save the Town hundreds of thousands of dollars over time.
As part of a comprehensive cost-savings implementation plan, the Town has also established new vendor partnerships that both reduce expenses and generate revenue. Through these partnerships, the Town now receives payment for scrap metal and electronic waste, including televisions and computers, while continuing to accept freon-containing items at no additional cost to residents.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini stated,
“These operational changes fundamentally reshaped how the Recycle Center operates. By investing in Town-owned equipment and partnering with vendors who now pay the Town for materials, our cost-savings plan is fully in effect—allowing us to expand services while keeping rates affordable for residents.”
Third Ward Councilman Christopher Phillips added,
“Last year, the Town made a smart decision to purchase a roll-off truck along with new dumpsters. This represents a significant change in how the Town helps residents—both in reducing costs and improving how we assist them in disposing of different types of waste. We now generate revenue from scrap metal and electronics. I commend the Highway Superintendent, along with the Supervisor and Town Clerk, for steering us down this path. It is another way we are helping the residents of Wappinger.”
Fourth Ward Councilman Al Casella also praised the initiative, stating,
“The enhancements at the re-cycle center will benefit all residents. The roll-off truck was put in service in January 2026 and we will start to see some significant cost savings which allows the Town Board to keep rates flat again for residents for the 3rd year in a row. In addition, with the new re-cycle containers we bought, the scrap dollars will come back to the town and provide revenue. We also have a vendor that will take all electronics and pay the town which will provide another revenue source. This is just another example of the Town looking for ways to save money and improve services for the residents.”
In addition, the Town has expanded recycling options through a partnership with Helpsy, offering residents free curbside pickup or drop-off of unwanted clothing and textiles at the Recycle Center for permit holders.
These initiatives reflect the Town Board’s continued commitment to fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and efficient service delivery.
For more information on Recycle Center permits, hours, accepted materials, and the Helpsy textile recycling program, please visit: https://townofwappingerny.gov/recycle-center/
