September 2025
Dear Neighbors,
As we bid farewell to another beautiful summer in the Town of Wappinger, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable progress we've made together over the past few months. From vital road reconstruction projects to exciting park improvements, the opening of brand new community facilities, and the launch of fresh recreational programming, our Town continues to grow stronger, safer, and more vibrant for residents of all ages.
This month brings an exciting lineup of community events and gatherings, and we hope to see you and your family out and about enjoying all that Wappinger has to offer. We look forward to having you at our annual fall festival, CarniFall at Brexel-Schlathaus Park as we celebrate the beauty this season brings to our region. Be sure to check the full schedule inside this newsletter and join us in celebrating the spirit of our Town!
Most importantly, I’m proud to share that the Wappinger Town Board has just passed historic legislation aimed at preserving the unique character of our community. This bold action protects over 8,000 acres of land from overdevelopment, preventing high-density multi-family construction in our single-family residential neighborhoods. This is a critical step in maintaining the quality of life our residents expect and deserve, and ensuring our Town’s future reflects the values we all share.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making the Town of Wappinger a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Other Local News Around Town
Once again, promises made, were promises kept as Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, Senior Councilman William H. Beale, Councilman Christopher Phillips, and Councilman Al Casella unanimously adopted significant updates to the Town Comprehensive Plan and Town Zoning Code aimed at preserving residents’ quality of life, preventing overdevelopment, and ensuring the community’s long-term sustainability.
This legislation, developed after months of data review, public discussion, and careful consideration, addresses outdated housing and infrastructure information, closes loopholes that allowed for unchecked growth, and reinforces the Town’s commitment to responsible planning.

'72 Miles to N. York', HISTORIC MILE MARKER RESTORED!
The Town of Wappinger proudly joined Eagle Scout candidate Evan DiMattia of Troop 145 in unveiling the beautifully restored Colonial Albany Post Road Mile Marker — a key step toward earning his Eagle Scout rank.
|
|
|
Evan worked alongside Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, his fellow scouts, and community volunteers to return this 18th-century landmark to its former glory.
Senior Councilman William H. Beale, representing the First Ward where this marker stands, and Fourth Ward Councilman Al Casella also joined neighbors to celebrate this moment of preservation.
Once inscribed with “72 Miles to N. York,” this mile marker is part of a chain installed along the original Post Road under the direction of Benjamin Franklin in colonial America. These markers served as vital reference points for mail carriers and travelers, guiding them between New York City and Albany — long before Route 9 became the modern thoroughfare we know today. The marker stands in front of Southside Plaza on Route 9.

TOWN AND COUNTY OFFICIALS JOIN THE SPIRIT OF '45 CELEBRATION
Wappinger Town & County Officials proudly joined the Spirit of ’45 celebration, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II — a day that set off celebrations around the world in 1945 and continues to inspire unity, gratitude, and remembrance.
This ceremony feels especially meaningful as the ceremony here in this very community kicked off the world wide recognition of this anniversary.
|
|
|
As the Town of Wappinger commemorates its 150th anniversary we reflect that during WWII, the Village of Wappingers Falls held a remarkable distinction — more residents served per capita than any other municipality in the nation. That legacy of service and sacrifice is something we carry forward with deep pride.
A heartfelt thank you to the members of the Victor L. Bracone VFW Post 5913 for organizing today’s beautiful and moving event, which included honoring two of Dutchess County’s own WWII veterans — including our friend Al Huber, whom we recognized earlier this year for his incredible service and contributions.
May we always remember the courage, commitment, and unity that defined the Greatest Generation — and strive to live up to that legacy every day.
