August 2025
Dear Neighbors,
As we find ourselves in the heart of summer, I hope you're all staying cool and taking time to enjoy the very best that the Town of Wappinger has to offer during these warm, sunny days. Whether you’re attending one of our beloved summer concerts, relaxing by the water, or simply enjoying time outdoors with family and friends, there’s no better place to be than right here at home.
While the heat may be rising, so too is the momentum of the many exciting projects we’ve been hard at work on. I’m proud to report that the full reconstruction of the Chelsea Boat Ramp and docks is well underway—an investment that will breathe new life into our riverfront access and provide a safer, more enjoyable experience for boaters and visitors alike. Drainage improvements across the town are progressing to address long-standing concerns and protect our neighborhoods from flooding and infrastructure damage.
We’re also thrilled to announce the creation of the Walk of Heroes at Brexel-Schlathaus Park—a meaningful tribute to those who have served our community and nation with honor and sacrifice. Additionally, the establishment of a brand-new in-house sign shop is already producing savings for our taxpayers. By fabricating and processing town signage locally, we’re cutting costs and increasing efficiency across multiple departments.
Innovation remains a key pillar of our administration. We are continuing to move forward with forward-thinking plans to streamline operations and reduce costs at our sewer treatment facilities—ensuring long-term savings and environmental responsibility.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Summer Concert Series is in full swing, bringing residents together each week for music, community spirit, and the joy of a summer evening in Wappinger. These events are what make our town so special—moments where we gather not just as neighbors, but as family.
In the spirit of community pride, I am especially honored to share that the national celebration for Spirit of ’45 Day will be taking place right here in the Town of Wappinger at our very own Wappingers Falls VFW Post 5913. As we commemorate the 150th Anniversary of our Town, it is deeply fitting that this national moment of remembrance and unity will be hosted in a community so steeped in patriotism, history, and service.
From meaningful infrastructure progress to celebrations that uplift our shared story, we continue to build a stronger, smarter, and more connected Wappinger—together.
Stay safe, stay cool, and as always, thank you for being an essential part of what makes this Town great.
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Honoring the Greatest Generation: National Spirit of ’45 Day at Wappingers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5913
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY – On August 10, 2025, the community is invited to come together at VFW Post 5913 in Wappingers Falls for a National Spirit of '45 Day event, honoring the legacy of the Greatest Generation. Hosted by Dani Masterson of Spirit of '45 in collaboration with VFW Post 5913, this free and open-to-the-public event will begin at 11:00 AM, commemorating the enduring spirit of those who fought for freedom and unity.
The Legacy of the Spirit of ’45
The Spirit of ’45 movement was established to honor the resilience, courage, and unity of the men and women who endured World War II and helped rebuild a better world in its aftermath. Inspired by the historic announcement of August 14, 1945, when President Harry S.Truman declared the war’s end, this annual observance serves as a reminder of the values that defined the Greatest Generation—personal responsibility, integrity, humility, and perseverance.
In 2010, the U.S. Congress officially recognized National Spirit of ’45 Day, ensuring that the sacrifices and achievements of WWII veterans and home-front heroes would never be forgotten. The movement continues to grow, encouraging communities across the country to reflect on the lessons of the past and recommit to the ideals of service, unity, and hope.
Event Highlights
The day's program will feature a wreath-laying ceremony to honor those who served and sacrificed, followed by a solemn Nationwide Tribute to TAPS, kicked off by Dani Masterson. This powerful moment of reflection will unite participants across the country in remembrance through the enduring notes of TAPS. Music by Club Swing Band
One of the most anticipated highlights will be the flyby of WWII’s legendary Placid Lassie, a C-47 aircraft that served during the historic Normandy landings. This breathtaking tribute will serve as a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifices made by those who served during World War II.
If you have a WWII hero in your family, we invite you to bring along a photo to share as we honor their legacy together.
Join us for an inspiring day of remembrance, honor, and celebration as we uphold the Spirit of ’45 and pay tribute to those who built the foundation of our freedoms.
