Dear Neighbors,
As we step into April, it’s exciting to see our Town coming to life with the promise of warmer weather and the energy of the season ahead. Much like the start of the Major League Baseball season—where Opening Day has kicked off and my favorite team, the Yankees, are back in action—our Town is also in full swing! There’s a buzz in the air as we prepare for a summer full of outdoor events and spring activities that families of all ages will enjoy. From our parks to our community spaces, there’s something for everyone to look forward to.
We’re also thrilled to share some of the great progress happening around Town. Capital projects continue to enhance our parks and recreation facilities, ensuring they remain top-notch places for our residents to gather and enjoy Contruction is underway to build two new playgrounds, a new live performance stage, new indoor programming space for veterans and senior citizens, and so much more. Additionally, our team has been working diligently, utilizing in-house labor to save costs on the Town’s sewer plants, all while collaborating with State agencies to meet new state-mandated environmental limits.
We’re making strong strides in updating our Comprehensive Plan, focusing on limiting overdevelopment and ensuring that growth in Wappinger happens responsibly, limiting high density, protecting our natural resources and quality of life. As part of our ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure, we’re set to pave and reconstruct approximately 7 miles of Town roads, making your commute smoother and safer.
I am proud of the progress we are making together, and I look forward to the continued development of our Town as a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. Let’s embrace the season ahead with excitement and enthusiasm as we continue to build a stronger, more vibrant Wappinger.
See you around Town,
Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Please note, all boaters must bring their own small boats, paddles, and PFDs, and must be EXPERIENCED PADDLERS/BOATERS. This is a rain or shine event.
Volunteers will meet at Wappingers Creek Boat Launch,121-129 County Rd 91, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. The meeting spot and launch is just past the brick Community Center (on the creek side) and the playing field (on the opposite side). Look for the sign for the Hudson R. Water Trail and a small park. There is a small parking area near the launch. You can also park at the playing field or in the Community Center's parking lot.
If you don't want to go on water, you can pick up litter in the small park. Otherwise, a boat and gear are needed. Boats include canoes, kayaks, rowboats & small power boats. Gear includes PFDs (which MUST be worn while on water), water shoes, synthetic clothing (NOT cotton) waterproof gloves or nitrile/vinyl or work gloves. If you know how to paddle a canoe, but don't have one, you might be able to borrow one from the leader. We recommend that all Sweep volunteers bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, insect repellent, work gloves and hand sanitizer.
