Dear Neighbors,

As we welcome the month of March, I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates with you. One of the most anticipated events of the year, the 30th Dutchess County St. Patrick's Parade, will be stepping off through the vibrant downtown streets of the Village of Wappingers Falls. This year, we are proud to honor Town resident Margo Maher as the 30th Grand Marshal of this cherished tradition. We encourage everyone to join in the festivities and celebrate the spirit of community!

As we mark our 150th anniversary, I’d like to invite you to explore our historic town in a fun and interactive way by visiting our small businesses and discovering landmarks along the Wappinger Passport. There’s no better way to experience all the unique places Wappinger has to offer while supporting the heart of our local economy.

While winter may be here, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes improving our town’s infrastructure. Construction has begun on an exciting new live performance stage at Brexel-Schlathaus Park, which will offer a wonderful space for cultural events in the future. We’re also transforming the interior of Schlathaus Park to create more programming space and renovations at The Chapel at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park are underway to make it a versatile event venue for residents to enjoy.

In addition, we are excited to announce that new playgrounds will be making their debut this month at Fleetwood Park and Castle Point Park. These long-awaited upgrades will be the first in nearly 20 years, providing much-needed play spaces for our children and families.

Our commitment to preserving the character and charm of Wappinger remains strong. In response to concerns over overdevelopment, we have launched a series of roundtable discussions with our residents and the Town Board. Your input is invaluable, and we look forward to continued dialogue as we work together to shape the future of our community.

I encourage you all to continue participating in the Wappinger150 events and programs throughout the year. Your involvement helps make our town the wonderful place it is!

In the fall of 1995, several members of the community and the Kevin Barry Irish Club gathered together to discuss the idea of a Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade.

This idea became a fact when, on March 9, 1996, with the help and blessing of St. Mary’s Parish and the Wappingers Falls Village Board, the first Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade stepped off, at 1:00PM from St. Mary’s parking lot in Wappingers Falls.

Now entering the 30th year, the Parade has grown into the very enjoyable and dignified event that attracts thousands of participants and spectators from near and far.

The Dutchess County Saint Patrick's Day Committee are a not for profit organization that relies totally on the generosity of  sponsors and donors. We look forward to seeing you at the Parade!

🍀 The Town of Wappinger will have TWO Wappinger150 floats featured in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade 🍀

“Clothing Through the Decades” showcasing Wappinger fashion every decade going back to 1875 & the reveal of Wappinger’s Birthday Cake! (which is estimated to be at least 10ft tall!)

Wappinger150 related promo items will be handed out during the event!

Reminder: Parking is plentiful at the South Hills Mall. There will be a shuttle bus from there and another from the Wappingers Junior High School Parking lot. Come out and enjoy the Parade, the day promises to be warmer on Saturday!

The Town of Wappinger will have a LARGE Wappinger150/Saint Patrick's Day Mural where children can use their imagination to draw, doodle, and sign their artwork. This Mural will be stored in our Wappinger150 Time Capsule later this year!

FREE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM FOR LOCAL VETERANS

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and Dutchess County Veterans Affairs Director Adam Roche have announced the launch of ‘GoGo Veterans,’ a new transportation program providing free rides to veterans in need of reliable transportation for essential services. Officially starting on March 1st, this initiative underscores Dutchess County’s unwavering commitment to those who have served our nation, ensuring they have access to the care and resources they deserve.

Through the ‘GoGo Veterans’ program, eligible veterans can receive:

• Two free rides per month in Dutchess County to medical appointments, including VA hospitals and local healthcare providers.

• One free ride in Dutchess County per month to a grocery store, pharmacy, or personal visit, helping veterans maintain independence and quality of life.

“Our veterans should never have to worry about how they’ll get to a doctor’s appointment or pick up groceries,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino. “They answered the call to serve, and now it’s our turn to serve them. ‘GoGo Veterans’ is about making life a little easier for those who have given so much, and I encourage every eligible veteran to take advantage of this program.”

Dutchess County Director of Veterans Affairs Adam Roche said, “Transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to a veteran’s health and well-being. Whether it’s getting to a critical medical appointment or simply picking up necessities, this program will help veterans stay connected and cared for. We’re proud to offer this support and make a meaningful difference in their lives.”

Veterans interested in enrolling in the program can call the Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs at 845-486-2060 to register for the program. Instructions on how to schedule rides will then be provided to enrolled veterans.

The GoGo Veterans program will enable the County to significantly expand ride availability for local veterans. The County has already successfully been utilizing GoGo services through the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, with nearly 2,000 rides provided to seniors in 2024.

Director Roche noted several veterans have already piloted the program and have been pleased with how convenient and flexible the service is. “We are thrilled to hear the great feedback from our veterans about how easy it is to use and look forward to serving many more veterans with this new service,” said Roche.

For veterans who had a ride previously scheduled through VetZero for the month of February, those rides will continue as scheduled.

Supervisor Cavaccini visits the Town of Wappinger Little League registration at Town Hall. Enrollment Numbers are up!

In speaking with Little League volunteers, I was delighted to learn that enrollment numbers have increased this year, further solidifying the importance of the investments we have made at Robinson Lane Baseball Complex to be the premier sports facility in our children.

RCK's Female Wrestler Becomes Champion

We like to congratulate our 1st EVER girls section 1 wrestling champion Gwen Browne!!!
After missing her sophomore year, Gwen's focus was only on Field Hockey. Giving wrestling a second chance, she came back strong her junior year and with hard work and determination Gwen had an undefeated wrestling season and she's headed up to Albany to represent RCK this year on February 27th.

Supervisor Cavaccini and Legislator Faust Stand with Corrections Officers

Many of our Wappinger neighbors work at Fishkill Correctional Facility in very difficult situations. Supervisor Cavaccini and Legislator Faust visited with employees and their families to show support for the corrections officers in standing up for fair treatment and supporting those who work hard to keep our community safe.

Wappinger Lodge Hosts Cub Scout Race

Wappinger Lodge of the Masons were happy to host Pack 40's Pinewood Derby this past weekend. Town of Wappinger Supervisor Joey Cavaccini was on hand for the presentation of trophies. Congratulations to all the Cub Scouts and their families that participated!

Chelsea Vandalism Removed

Within 1 hour of being reported, Town Supervisor Cavaccini and Superintendent of Highways Michael J. Sheehan immediately removed graffiti at the gateway of Chelsea.
