From the Office of Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini
Dear neighbors,
As we welcome October and the beauty of fall in the Hudson Valley, I am reminded of the vibrant colors that adorn our landscapes and the crisp air that invites us outdoors. This season is a wonderful time to explore our local parks and traverse the picturesque Wappinger Greenway Trail. Please consider taking advantage of the stunning scenery that our town has to offer and support our local farms and farmstands, where you can find fresh produce and celebrate the bounty of the harvest.
October also brings an array of family-friendly events, and we hope you all plan to join us for Town of Wappinger Community Weekend - Carni"Fall," from October 11-14 at Brexel-Schlathaus Park where fun and laughter await! Our neighborhoods are buzzing with Halloween and "spooky season" festivities, and it’s heartwarming to see families coming together to celebrate this beautiful time of year.
As we embrace these exciting community moments, it is also important to note the serious day to day activities happening here in Town Hall as I am preparing to present my Tentative Budget to the Town Board for the coming year. This budget addresses the budgetary gaps left by the previous administration, focusing on funding crucial areas that were not fully accounted for such as debt service, salaries, insurance, and utilities—all while staying under the New York State tax levy cap. It is important to note that the Town is in excellent financial shape, but now coupled with the audit and control practices the Town Board and I implemented earlier in the year, we are even stronger. Our team is proud to say that this Supervisor's Tentative Budget plan would not impose a significant burden on taxpayers and lays a solid foundation for our future as we approach the Town of Wappinger's sesquicentennial in 2025.
In addition to these financial considerations, we remain committed to enhancing the quality of life for all our residents. We continue to make significant strides through local laws designed to protect our natural spaces, foster growth among small businesses, and limit overdevelopment. These common-sense legislative proposals are vital for preserving the character of our town and ensuring a vibrant community for generations to come.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, let’s make this fall season memorable while working toward a brighter future for Wappinger.
See you around Town, Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

Wappinger Town Hall Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini and the Town Board have directed the illumination of the front of Wappinger Town Hall to be pink in support of all residents and their families who have had, continue to fight, or lost their battle to breast cancer. This illumination raises awareness and in recognition of all of those who struggle with this horrific cancer.
In 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. But there is hope. Advancements in early detection methods and support continue to increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
Joint-Town Landfill to Receive EPA Funds to Reduce Harmful Emissions at Airport
The Town of Wappinger is pleased to welcome the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to the solar array at the Hudson Valley Regional Airport, overlooking the closed Joint-Town Landfill at the airport, to celebrate $3 million EPA Climate Pollution Reduction Grant awarded to the Hudson Valley Regional Council. The grant will support 14 regional participants, including Dutchess County, in reducing methane emissions from closed landfills in the region with the installation of biofilters. The landfill at the airport makes up more than 20% of County Government's total Greenhouse Gas emissions. The biofilters use a particular mulch that contain bacteria that digest methane from the landfill gas and are estimated to reduce methane by as much as 90 percent! This new project is part of Dutchess County's continuing commitment to environmental stewardship and climate action to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for our children and generations to come.
