From the Office of Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini
Dear neighbors,
As summer continues to brighten our days, I am thrilled to welcome you to the August edition of our "Around Town" newsletter! These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and progress here in the Town of Wappinger, and we are excited to share some of the highlights with you.
First, we're delighted to continue to announce several upcoming events and programs that promise to bring our community together and create lasting memories, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Through this engagement we are proud to host these wonderful opportunities to connect with your neighbors, celebrate our vibrant community, and have some fun in the sun.
We’ve also been busy with important improvements and renovations to our town parks and facilities. Our Buildings and Grounds team as well as our Highway Department have been working diligently to enhance the amenities you love, including new playground equipment at Spook Hill Park and upgrades to the restrooms at Castle Point Park and Robinson Lane Baseball Complex. These enhancements will ensure that our parks remain a safe and enjoyable place for all to visit.
In addition, we are hosting a series of important roundtable discussions across a variety of issues in our community. Our professional staff and I continue to meet with representatives from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to rebuild relationships and foster solid discussions to rethink our approaches to our water and sewer infrastructure projects, ensuring that we continue to maintain and improve the quality of our essential services, while maintaining affordability.
We are also introducing new local laws aimed at curbing overdevelopment and enhancing our quality of life. I was proud to work with our Planning Board to host a public workshop session on two proposed local laws that are designed to preserve the character of our town and ensure that future growth is balanced with our community’s needs and values.
Finally, on behalf of our Town Board, we encourage each of you to engage with our ongoing initiatives and provide your valuable feedback. Your input is vital as we continue to make strides in creating a better, more connected Wappinger.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Together, we continue to make our town an even better place to live, work, and play.
See you around Town, Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor

What's Happening In Wappinger
Adopt a Spot Initiative Grows... Friends of Grinnell Recognized
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini took to the downtown streets of the Village of Wappingers Falls to discuss the Town's Adopt a Spot initiative. The program has already garnered the support of dozens of residents and businesses across our Town to beautify public spaces throughout Wappinger, at no cost to taxpayers. Last week, the Town joined members of our community to recognize the Friends of Grinnell Library for their years of volunteerism and dedication to our community and to thank them for officially joining our program and continuing to enhance our quality of life!
Damaged Angel Brook Neighborhood Gateway Sign Replaced
|
|
Earlier this year a car accidentally struck and completely destroyed the gateway sign into the Angel Brook neighborhood. In an effort to continue to improve our community, it was important to restore this sign as soon as possible and not let it go unreplaced.
***Residents of Wildwood Forest, the gateway sign located on Wildwood Drive was stuck and broken also by a vehicle and a new sign has been ordered following the Town receiving the funds to replace it through the driver's insurance. We will make every effort to ensure that when there is damage caused to Town property, we will rebuild it.
Park and Facility Improvements Continue
As a part of our Wappinger Parkland Improvement Act, the Town has taken significant strides in improving our parks and making decades old ideas become a reality.
Our Buildings and Grounds personnel have made great strides in reopening many of our parks' restroom facilities to the public. These park amenities have seen better days and Town employees have repainted, installed new fixtures, deep cleaned, and are installing epoxy floors all in house saving taxpayers thousands of dollars. Restroom improvements have been made to Martz Field, Robinson Lane Baseball Complex, Spook Hill Park, and Castle Point Park.
The Town would also like to thank Mrs. Noreen Sweeney for her donation of a child changing table at Spook Hill Park, these improvements come alongside the opening of a new swing set at the park and in anticipation of the new outdoor exercise equipment being installed this coming week. The Town Board took action on April 22, 2024, to fully fund the completion of the 9 year long Spook Hill Park rehabilitation project.
Our Highway Department has completed in-house work at Schlathaus Park by installing nearly 400 feet of new drainage pipes, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. These efforts have allowed for the property drain properly and actually be utilized rather than allowing the 40-year-old existing swamp like conditions to continue.
Decades Old Dangerous Stairs at Castle Point Park Removed
|
|
The stairs leading to the pavilion at Castle Point Park have been removed by Town personnel following ongoing improvements being made throughout the Town parks system. The Town is co-hosting a children's nature and sports-oriented program at the park in the coming weeks. Through this public-private partnership, Castle Point Park will continue to see improvements. |

Owner Amy Parks explained her business as that, "The lounge will be a relaxing place during the day to meet with a client, plug in a laptop or just kick back with a cappuccino. Town Receives Construction Briefing and Tour of NYC Delaware Aqueduct
This afternoon, representatives from our Town of Wappinger Code Enforcement Office and Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini were invited by New York City officials to tour the City's Delaware Aqueduct Shaft 6 Site in the Chelsea Hamlet and meet to discuss recent updates in regard to completing their bypass tunnel project under the Hudson River. 2nd Ward Councilwoman Angela Bettina has remained engaged and in communication with NYC DEP throughout the project.
Construction to formally connect the new tunnel to the rest of the 80-year-old aqueduct, which is the longest tunnel in the world, will resume in October with a projected deadline of May 2025. The project began over a decade ago when NYC worked with Town professionals to deliver water to hundreds of properties on the eastern side of the Town to obtain water at the shaft site. Once finished, it will prevent significant water loss to the City’s water supply. Residents and motorists on Chelsea Road, Dutchess County Route 92, can expect to see road reconstruction next year following the completion of the project.
In partnership with Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, County Legislator Robert Faust, and the Town of Wappinger, the Melanie Chianese Foundation will be hosting a car show on Saturday, August 10 in memory of this Wappinger resident who was tragically taken too soon from the impact of domestic violence.
John Regan Memorial Concert Series Continues at Mesier Park
